Label.m - Dry Shampoo Brunette

Although I love my dry shampoo for those days when you just don’t feel like (or have the time to) wash your hair. And with the current water restrictions, using a dry shampoo to your hair care routine will also go a long way to saving water.   Recently a friend of mine was horrified that I even mentioned dry shampoo, but then I realised that it was she has dark hair, and most dry shampoo’s make her hair look grey and chalky.   So I thought I’d share this bit of latest news, that Label.M has developed a dry shampoo for brunettes.    If you’ve tried it, please tell us what you think about it, in the comments below.   “label.m Dry Shampoo refreshes hair in-between shampooing using natural Rich Starch to disperse oil. Also works as a brilliant matt texturiser for a soft-touch, velvet finish to the hair.Read More

spray

I have two 50ml Avène Thermal Spring Water canisters to test and review and I’m giving one away to a lucky reader.      What is the natural key ingredient? “Originating as pure rain mixed with sea-spray rich in mineral salts, Avène Thermal Spring Water makes its 50-year journey through the Cévennes Mountains in Avène, France. It gradually becomes infused with trace elements and silicates, and comes in contact with an ancient microorganism Aqua.Dolomiae, which was first identified by Avène in 2001. This remarkable biological property combined with the well-known mineral properties of Avène Thermal Spring Water ensures gentleness and tolerance, creating a unique double signature that does not exist anywhere else in the world. Over 150 stringent biological, pharmacological and clinical studies have clearly demonstrated the soothing, softening and calming benefits of AvèneThermal Spring Water.”Source: http://www.aveneusa.com/avene-thermal-spring-water     Benefits of  Avène Thermal Spring Water: Soothe, soften and calm skin ReducesRead More

[Review] Fine Touch Nails

liza

Liza van den Berg recently opened Fine Touch Nails in a beauty clinic in Welgemoed where she offers massages, manicures, pedicures and Maskscara gel polish. I was invited by Liza to experience her luxury pedicure.   Situated in a lovely residential area, I found the salon easily and was welcomed warmly by Liza.   Liza has just re-entered the beauty industry, however, she does have 6 years experience behind her, and it shows in her work.   Quietly confident, Liza offers a great service and my heels were the softest and smoothest they’ve been in years.    After a wonderful foot massage, (where I wished I had four feet so that it could continue even longer), she applied my chosen colour expertly for a perfect pedicure finish.     Even though she doesn’t have the largest selection of colours (which I’m sure will grow with time), she does offer a wide enough range (Bio Sculpture,Read More

Lamelle – Serra skincare range

serra

So, the quest is always on to find the perfect skincare for my skin which is mostly dry, sensitive and generally stressed. And of course, after the age of 40 is presenting other rather distressing issues such as pigmentation and wrinkles.   Gina at Professional Skin Care Lab, my trusty salon, recommended that after my  microneedling session (see review) I needed to use the Serra range of products made by local laboratory Lamelle as these would best suit my skin and also facilitate the healing needed after the treatment.   Having previously used Lamelle’s Clarity Active Control for breakouts and been very impressed, I was keen to try out this range of products specifically deigned for sensitive skin like mine,  which also has an anti-inflammatory effect.   The Serra products have been created to maintain a functional skin barrier —essential to prevent unwanted environmental elements from penetrating into theRead More

Why I’ll Never Sign Up To A Subscription Service

I wrote this post in anger. You know when your neck turns red, because you’re actually seething. So I thought, lets sleep on this one before posting (something Trump might want to do sometimes), and let’s see how I feel in the morning. I didn’t sleep very well as the ‘injustice’ of it and feeling of powerlessness just kept me up.  And, No, I’m not talking about some life shattering, horrific trauma to someone or something, I’m only talking about trying to cancel a subscription service that I didn’t want. But trust me, this in itself is anger inducing enough.   I’ve been receiving emails from a company that offers a subscription service. They do a great job at marketing their service and products and I’ve been tempted to buy, but kept stalling as soon as I had to fill in my credit card details. Now don’t get me wrong, I buyRead More

Last week I dashed off to Style Bar Constantia again for a much needed hair pamper session, and as always I was drawn to the funky new Tangle Teezers as well as some fun gift sets that look pretty amazing.   I’m such a fan of the Tangle Teezer that I have several in different shapes and sizes and have gifted a few as well. As Feb is the month of lurve, these pink Tangle Angels really stood out.                            These little mini ‘nano’ invisibobbles are amazing for up do’s instead of using pins.    I also wanted to mention and give a shout out to Style Bar for using EcoHeads in all the salons, which basically reduces water usage by 56% but still gives you a powerful spray for a good wash.    Style Bar  For moreRead More

Andrew Churcher – Reflexology

reflexology

Once in a while, you come across someone extraordinary— and Andrew is one of those people. He is a qualified reflexologist and aromatherapist,  but he is also so much more than that.    A natural born healer (it runs in his family) , Andrew’s background as a paramedic means that he not only understands the body from the medical perspective but also how to use his intuition in his treatments.   I am a big believer in reflexology and in its ability to treat ailments and promote healing and relaxation and bring balance to the system. In fact, throughout the years, I have used it many times on a regular basis— as when I was on fertility treatment and trying to get pregnant. I found it extremely helpful then and it’s still one of my favourite body therapies.     Andrew’s reflexology method is very gentle. The minute he beganRead More

ESSE – Probiotic Skincare

Esse

The World Health Organization defines a probiotic as a live microbe that is beneficial to humans. Extracts of probiotics have been used extensively in skincare but the “holy grail” of incorporating live probiotics has proved elusive. This is because conventional products contain preservatives … and preservatives kill microbes. Esse has used innovative production techniques, airless glass packaging and a preservative-free formula to launch the world’s first live probiotic serum and it’s taking the world by storm. The probiotic microbes are encapsulated and suspended in an oil base, reanimating and starting to divide when they come into contact with water on the skin’s surface. The efficacy of topical probiotics has been a hot topic in science with more than 5000 literature references on the “skin microbiome” in 2015. Testing in Germany has shown that the new serum from Esse has the ability to improve skin firmness by an average of 16%Read More

My Dermal Filler Experience [VIDEO]

Screen-Image

After I had my Botox treatment with Dr Alek Nikolic, we discussed dermal fillers — injections of hyaluronic acid — to fill out my sunken cheekbones and lift the corners of my mouth.  We definitely wanted to keep it looking natural, which I believe he managed to do, as once again no-one has noticed. I’ve just had a few people saying I’m looking good/healthy etc.   I was quite nervous on the day. Firstly because I didn’t know what it was going to look like afterwards, and secondly because there is a risk of complications. Regardless of how good/experienced the doctor is, there are some potential side effects. You can read more about that on All Dolled Up’s excellent Q&A here.    Luckily Dr Alek is very calm and professional, which made it a lot less scary.   My main concern was loss of volume in my cheeks so he injected Juvederm fillersRead More

What Is The Difference Between Brazilian Blowdry and Micro Keratin Treatment?

Posted on by Anouschka in Ask The Experts | Leave a comment
blond2-before-and-after

I recently heard about a new treatment called the Micro Keratin Treatment and wondered how this compared to other keratin treatments and the Brazilian Blowdry.   The main benefit that I could find is that there is no formaldehyde in the Micro Keratin Treatment so you won’t be breathing in any of those bad fumes.  Intrigued to find out more, I asked the experts at Style Bar & Micro Keratin to answer a few questions.    What’s the main difference between Brazilian Blowdry and Micro Keratin Treatment ? MK works with a much smaller Keratin particle that has the ability to work deeper into the hair and at the same time deposit more of them into the hair strand. This results in hair that is much more repaired soft and smoother making it much easier to style and maintain a style. Its similar to a Brazilian but the technology allowsRead More
