[Review] Aura Skincare Clinic – Parkhurst

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

Aura skincare is one of my go-to salons— I have my nails done there occasionally—they do a sterling job and the experience is always very pleasant. Nestled in Parkhurst, the salon is elegant and comfortable.     So, it was, of course, a no-brainer when I was offered a !QMS Medicosmetics Neo Tissudermie Treament.  The skincare line is award-winning and I have always wanted to to try a facial. Dr. Schulte, the creator of these products, combined his passion for science with his vast experience whilst working as a surgeon in the fields of trauma and cosmetic surgery, to continually evolve the effectiveness of skincare. He sees the future of skincare as being interlinked with the development of modern technologies used to transport the ingredients deep into the epidermal layer.     Glynne, the lovely owner, who also did my treatment, assured me that my skin would not “overreact” toRead More

[Review] Skin & Nail Lounge

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

A while ago I reviewed a superb and award-winning salon which I often  frequent for facials and products called Professional Skin in Partktown North. Since then, I discovered that its brilliant owner Gina Gall has another salon in Bryanston.     Many years ago when I was struggling with breakouts on my forehead area, I has some microdermabrasion treatments. However, I had not experienced it for a very long time, until I was invited to Skin & Nail Lounge. Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer.     This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discolouration, sun damage and even stretch marks. It’s sort of like an intense exfoliation— it removes the outer, superficial layer of skin cells. For someone like me, who suffers from dry skin and flaking, it’s extremely exciting to have itRead More

Lamelle – Serra skincare range

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Product Reviews, Reviews | Leave a comment

So, the quest is always on to find the perfect skincare for my skin which is mostly dry, sensitive and generally stressed. And of course, after the age of 40 is presenting other rather distressing issues such as pigmentation and wrinkles.   Gina at Professional Skin Care Lab, my trusty salon, recommended that after my  microneedling session (see review) I needed to use the Serra range of products made by local laboratory Lamelle as these would best suit my skin and also facilitate the healing needed after the treatment.   Having previously used Lamelle’s Clarity Active Control for breakouts and been very impressed, I was keen to try out this range of products specifically deigned for sensitive skin like mine,  which also has an anti-inflammatory effect.   The Serra products have been created to maintain a functional skin barrier —essential to prevent unwanted environmental elements from penetrating into theRead More

Andrew Churcher – Reflexology

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

Once in a while, you come across someone extraordinary— and Andrew is one of those people. He is a qualified reflexologist and aromatherapist,  but he is also so much more than that.    A natural born healer (it runs in his family) , Andrew’s background as a paramedic means that he not only understands the body from the medical perspective but also how to use his intuition in his treatments.   I am a big believer in reflexology and in its ability to treat ailments and promote healing and relaxation and bring balance to the system. In fact, throughout the years, I have used it many times on a regular basis— as when I was on fertility treatment and trying to get pregnant. I found it extremely helpful then and it’s still one of my favourite body therapies.     Andrew’s reflexology method is very gentle. The minute he beganRead More

[Review] Professional Skin Care Lab – Microneedling

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

I have a confession to make. When I am not reviewing salons, Professional Skin Care Lab is my go-to salon.  Whatever treatment you choose at this salon is bound to be of the highest standard— Professional Skin Care Lab just won the coveted Salon of the Year Award  (4 rooms or more) at this year’s prestigious Professional Beauty Awards. So,if I was going to trust anyone to do the seemingly intimidating Microneedling Treatment with the Dermapen on me and my rather sensitive visage, well it’s definitely this salon. The idea behind the Microneedling is that it uses the Dermapen,  which has multiple needles that pierce the skin vertically with an automatic vibrating function. While moving across the skin’s surface it stimulates natural collagen production and allows fine channels to be created in the skin. These channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients so allowing your skin to reallyRead More

[Review] Ordinary Skincare

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Product Reviews, Reviews | Leave a comment

Ordinary Skincare I read about Dr Claire Jamieson’s skincare range and immediately desperately wanted to try it as it seemed just what the doctor ordered for my rosacea-prone, sensitive and sometimes dehydrated skin. Also having recently gone through some health issues, my skin urgently needed some TLC in the form of products that would heal and soothe.   Made locally, the Ordinary skincare range has been developed especially for people with “hardworking skin” (mine definitely fits the bill!)  and they marry the finest that nature offers with the best of modern science. Plus, all the ingredients are safe and ethically sourced using sustainable ingredients and tested only on humans. What’s not to love?   I was lucky enough to test a range of products which I can now honestly say have fulfilled all of my expectations and more. The  award-winning Cleanser is exactly what I require in that it’s soap-Read More

[Review] Skin Miles

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Product Reviews, Reviews | Leave a comment

I am a big believer in shopping online— mostly because I am too busy to actually hit the shops and it is very convenient. But, I had no idea that skincare uniquely chosen for my specific skin issues, could also be ordered online.   Skin Miles offers you the chance to have a “consultation” with renowned aesthetic medical practitioner, Dr Alek Nikolic and then receive your products to your home. What a novel and fantastic idea!   It’s pretty simple—I filled out on online form about my skin, my major concerns and skin challenges as well as what I was looking for in products and which products I already was using. My main concerns this winter were dehydration, anti-ageing and pigmentation and I was also very anxious about not provoking a flare-up of my rosacea, which appears mostly in times of stress but can also be aggravated by products and foods.Read More

[Review] You Bar

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | 2 Comments

Unless you’ve been hiding under a big rock, then you will know that the latest buzzword in beauty treatments is “natural”. This means using products with the least amount of chemicals that are as close to nature and as organic as possible.     So, this is where YouBar really has set the bar very high (sorry, I could not help myself) as they pride themselves on using all-natural ingredients that are bio-identical, which means avoiding synthetics. Africology products, YouBar’s products of choice, are locally made, and have built up a cult following. It’s no wonder! Not only are they amazingly good for you in every way, but one sniff of their delicious aromatic aroma and you will be hooked forevermore— this I promise you!     I was lucky enough to experience one of the most  divine manicures ever— the Africology Signature Manicure. As a beauty reviewer, I haveRead More

[Review] Team Dr Joseph Facial

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Anti-Aging, Latest News, Reviews, Skin Care, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

In a market saturated with many multitudes of beauty treatments and facials—it’s difficult to find one that truly differentiates itself. But, I truly have!   If you read my reviews then by now you know that my skin is not run-of-the-mill as I suffer from dehydration, sensitivity and also flare-ups of rosacea which means I need a facial that takes all of this into account. I was assured by the Team Dr Joseph professionals that not only would my skin love this facial but that it would also be something completely extraordinary.   It was decided that I would receive the Intense Purifying Face Treatment for a visibly fresher complexion and to bring back vital radiance— yes, I was surely in need of this after a few sleepless nights thanks to a sick child, as well as the onset of winter which meant that my skins was beginning to feel ratherRead More

Spa 88 – JHB Review

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | 1 Comment

If you read my reviews by now you must know of my never-ending quest to unearth the perfect mani/pedi at the top class salons around Jozi. Truth be told, there are so many spas and salons, but not all of them make the grade.     Spa 88 was recommended to me by a friend whom I trust— she spoke of them so highly that I simply had to try it out. Located in possibly the funkiest street in town, Parkhurst’s Fourth Avenue, Spa88 is nestled between Expresso and Egality. I need no excuse to visit Parkhurst so was super eager to have my nails attended to before my December beach holiday. Ragged, scraggly nails would not do for party season, oh no…     Sophisticated and sleek, Spa 88’s decor is simple but striking and the therapists are friendly yet professional. I always like to be helped in choosingRead More

Urban Bliss – Review & Give-Away

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | 1 Comment

Well, it had been at least a year since my last facial (my dermatologist suggested I not do any treatments to my face because my rosacea flare-up was quite severe) but it seemed to have settled down so I decided to brave a facial from this spa— call it a good intuition.   I knew that they meant serious business and that I would in safe hands when the owner of the spa, Ayesha, wanted to know everything about my skin. So, I shared my sorry tale with her (of dehydration, rosacea and sensitivity) and she assured me that the treatment would be customised for my particular skin conditions. Ayesha, a true beauty professional, owned a spa for many years before this and has ensured that Urban Bliss well and truly lives up to its name. A little hideaway in the middle of buzzing Emmarentia, you must be warned that onceRead More

Best Body Skin Review JHB

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Anti-Aging, Beauty & Body, Reviews, Skin Care, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

I am always looking for treatments that I have never tried before and only from the most professional people. You can’t take chances with your body or your face. That’s why I am so pleased to have discovered  Best Body Skin in Birdhaven.   Often salons which offer cutting- edge, skin and body treatments can feel intimidating, but no so with Best Body Skin. The staff, team of experts and the bright décor put one instantly at ease—especially important considering I was about to embark on a programme, which included multiple injections to my face!   After an in- depth consultation with somatologist Hajira, we decided to concentrate on the areas of my face, which cause me the greatest concern. Namely, pigmentation, dullness and loss of elasticity due to ageing, lack of sleep and general stress. In other words, I really wanted to try and recapture my youthful glow! NoRead More
