I was sent the 3D Fiber Lashes by Rubybox to test and review and was truly excited and curious to find out what this product was all about and if it could give me awesome lashes.   I have the shortest little lashes, and after trying extensions for a while, I eventually had to stop as I started getting an allergic reaction to the glue.     The 3D Fiber Lashes comes with a gel and 3D Fibers applicators.  How to apply: Ensure that your eye lashes are clean, dry and free from any mascara Apply 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara to one eye at a time First apply Gel from mid eyelash to the end/tips Second (while the Gel is wet) apply the fibers from mid eyelash to the tips Third seal the eyelashes with a coat of Gel You may repeat this process until the desired effectRead More

What Is A Collagen Supplement?

Collagen is a structural component of skin, providing elasticity, as well as skin cell renewal, to keep skin looking plump and youthful. It is also found in our bones, muscles and tendons as well as hair and nails.   In our youth our skin is made up of 80 percent collage, but as we age, collagen breaks down at about 1 percent a year, and our bodies ability to produce new collagen slows down, leading to a loss of plumpness in the skin and an increase in wrinkles.   Collagen is an ingredient in many skincare brands, but some dermatologists say its molecules are too big to penetrate the skin to be really effective.   Collagen supplements claim to rejuvenate the skin, but from the inside out, as you take them orally. The collagen is broken down into amino acids, and absorbed and distributed internally, improving the skin all over your body, asRead More

Kerastase

We all love visiting our hair dresser for a much needed bi-monthly highlight, colour or trim, as it always makes us not only look but feel soooo much better.   Another awesome bonus about visiting Style Bar is that they are continuously testing and introducing new ranges to their offering. Here are a few hot new lines that they stock along with all our old favourites.               My friend commented on how natural my blonde looks, and asked where I have my hair done. She’d heard of Style Bar before, but didn’t know exactly where it was situated in Constantia.     So for those of you who are also curious, Style Bar is situated in the Constantia Village Courtyard. It’s not in the main shopping center, but the smaller center where you’ll find Clicks and Standard Bank etc.   Contact Style BarShop 14Constantia Village CourtyardConstantiaRead More

I’m excited to have been selected as one of the bloggers to test and review the Collagen Lift Paris Red Carpet.   This is a collagen supplement that you take orally on a daily basis.   Each 10 ml ampule contains: Bioactive Collagen 5000mg Hyaluronic Acid 100mg Mediterranean Seaweed Extract Vitamin C Indications and Recommendations: Take 1 ampule a day diluted in a glass of water or juice on an empty stomach, preferably before breakfast. I put it in some water, and it tastes really nice, like a red berry juice.    Clinically Proven To: Decrease wrinkles Increase skin elasticity and moisture Restore plumpness    Initially I wasn’t sure if I was interested in testing a supplement, but after doing a little bit of research, the benefits of taking oral collagen sounded very interesting, so I quickly changed my mind.   Rubybox sent me a 2 month supply to testRead More

I have two 50ml Avène Thermal Spring Water canisters to test and review and I’m giving one away to a lucky reader.      What is the natural key ingredient? “Originating as pure rain mixed with sea-spray rich in mineral salts, Avène Thermal Spring Water makes its 50-year journey through the Cévennes Mountains in Avène, France. It gradually becomes infused with trace elements and silicates, and comes in contact with an ancient microorganism Aqua.Dolomiae, which was first identified by Avène in 2001. This remarkable biological property combined with the well-known mineral properties of Avène Thermal Spring Water ensures gentleness and tolerance, creating a unique double signature that does not exist anywhere else in the world. Over 150 stringent biological, pharmacological and clinical studies have clearly demonstrated the soothing, softening and calming benefits of AvèneThermal Spring Water.”Source: http://www.aveneusa.com/avene-thermal-spring-water     Benefits of  Avène Thermal Spring Water: Soothe, soften and calm skin ReducesRead More

[Review] Fine Touch Nails

liza

Liza van den Berg recently opened Fine Touch Nails in a beauty clinic in Welgemoed where she offers massages, manicures, pedicures and Maskscara gel polish. I was invited by Liza to experience her luxury pedicure.   Situated in a lovely residential area, I found the salon easily and was welcomed warmly by Liza.   Liza has just re-entered the beauty industry, however, she does have 6 years experience behind her, and it shows in her work.   Quietly confident, Liza offers a great service and my heels were the softest and smoothest they’ve been in years.    After a wonderful foot massage, (where I wished I had four feet so that it could continue even longer), she applied my chosen colour expertly for a perfect pedicure finish.     Even though she doesn’t have the largest selection of colours (which I’m sure will grow with time), she does offer a wide enough range (Bio Sculpture,Read More

Lamelle – Serra skincare range

serra

So, the quest is always on to find the perfect skincare for my skin which is mostly dry, sensitive and generally stressed. And of course, after the age of 40 is presenting other rather distressing issues such as pigmentation and wrinkles.   Gina at Professional Skin Care Lab, my trusty salon, recommended that after my  microneedling session (see review) I needed to use the Serra range of products made by local laboratory Lamelle as these would best suit my skin and also facilitate the healing needed after the treatment.   Having previously used Lamelle’s Clarity Active Control for breakouts and been very impressed, I was keen to try out this range of products specifically deigned for sensitive skin like mine,  which also has an anti-inflammatory effect.   The Serra products have been created to maintain a functional skin barrier —essential to prevent unwanted environmental elements from penetrating into theRead More

Why I’ll Never Sign Up To A Subscription Service

I wrote this post in anger. You know when your neck turns red, because you’re actually seething. So I thought, lets sleep on this one before posting (something Trump might want to do sometimes), and let’s see how I feel in the morning. I didn’t sleep very well as the ‘injustice’ of it and feeling of powerlessness just kept me up.  And, No, I’m not talking about some life shattering, horrific trauma to someone or something, I’m only talking about trying to cancel a subscription service that I didn’t want. But trust me, this in itself is anger inducing enough.   I’ve been receiving emails from a company that offers a subscription service. They do a great job at marketing their service and products and I’ve been tempted to buy, but kept stalling as soon as I had to fill in my credit card details. Now don’t get me wrong, I buyRead More

Last week I dashed off to Style Bar Constantia again for a much needed hair pamper session, and as always I was drawn to the funky new Tangle Teezers as well as some fun gift sets that look pretty amazing.   I’m such a fan of the Tangle Teezer that I have several in different shapes and sizes and have gifted a few as well. As Feb is the month of lurve, these pink Tangle Angels really stood out.                            These little mini ‘nano’ invisibobbles are amazing for up do’s instead of using pins.    I also wanted to mention and give a shout out to Style Bar for using EcoHeads in all the salons, which basically reduces water usage by 56% but still gives you a powerful spray for a good wash.    Style Bar  For moreRead More

Andrew Churcher – Reflexology

reflexology

Once in a while, you come across someone extraordinary— and Andrew is one of those people. He is a qualified reflexologist and aromatherapist,  but he is also so much more than that.    A natural born healer (it runs in his family) , Andrew’s background as a paramedic means that he not only understands the body from the medical perspective but also how to use his intuition in his treatments.   I am a big believer in reflexology and in its ability to treat ailments and promote healing and relaxation and bring balance to the system. In fact, throughout the years, I have used it many times on a regular basis— as when I was on fertility treatment and trying to get pregnant. I found it extremely helpful then and it’s still one of my favourite body therapies.     Andrew’s reflexology method is very gentle. The minute he beganRead More

My Dermal Filler Experience [VIDEO]

Screen-Image

After I had my Botox treatment with Dr Alek Nikolic, we discussed dermal fillers — injections of hyaluronic acid — to fill out my sunken cheekbones and lift the corners of my mouth.  We definitely wanted to keep it looking natural, which I believe he managed to do, as once again no-one has noticed. I’ve just had a few people saying I’m looking good/healthy etc.   I was quite nervous on the day. Firstly because I didn’t know what it was going to look like afterwards, and secondly because there is a risk of complications. Regardless of how good/experienced the doctor is, there are some potential side effects. You can read more about that on All Dolled Up’s excellent Q&A here.    Luckily Dr Alek is very calm and professional, which made it a lot less scary.   My main concern was loss of volume in my cheeks so he injected Juvederm fillersRead More
