Body Basics Review

relax

Liesel from Body Basics invited me to come and view her new treatment room and experience one of her super relaxing massages with an express pedicure.   Having managed her mobile massage company for 5 years, Liesel recently added a treatment room adjacent to her home so that she could also cater for after hours treatments.   I must admit that I did get lost (yes again!) and had to pull out the map book and do a u-turn but I found her home with no further instructions and was greeted warmly at her gate.   The room, though simply decorated, is fresh and neat and you can feel that Liesel is very happy and proud to have her own treatment room to pamper people in.   There is a bathroom with shower facility in which I changed and then got ready for a lovely back, neck & shoulderRead More

nail-art

It’s always exciting when a new salon opens in Jozi… and although I have my favourites, I am always keen to discover new places. Illovo Square on Corlett Drive has just been revamped and now houses some lovely new shops including Tanvi Nail & Body Bar. I’m here to try out the signature mani and pedi and most exciting of all, the nail art.     Salon owner Preya Naidoo has created a lovely ambiance with modern furnishings that are slick and yet still comfortable. She explains that Tanvi means “beautiful girl or delicate, pretty girl”. Samantha my therapist is lovely- a good quality in a therapist is the ability to suss out when a client wants to talk and when they just need to chill. My nails and toes have suffered the last few months as with a newborn, I rarely have had time to treat myself to a pedi/mani andRead More

Have You Heard Of Lingerie Letters?

Lily

Today I want to share an amazing little secret that I just discovered.   First, let me introduce you to Lily:    If you love Lingerie as much as I do, then you are going to go crazy about Lingerie Letters, as Lily will send you a pretty pair by post every month.   No-one really sends letters anymore, so the only thing we usually receive in the postbox is our monthly bills. Lingerie Letters will make you look forward to seeing the postman as you wait for your little package to be delivered to your door.   As a lingerie subscription service, they playfully take the schlep out of shopping for panties by sending you a pretty pair by post, accompanied with a love letter. With your preferred style in mind (thongs, briefs or surprise me – love that!) you’re in for a sexy surprise every month.   WhetherRead More

After meeting with Krystle from Casuarina Wellness at the Commodore Hotel, she mentioned that they were about to introduce Babor to their treatment list and invited me to be one of the first to experience the Doctor Babor Facial.   Situated conveniently near the V&A Waterfront, the Commodore Hotel, is the perfect tranquil setting for the Casuarina Spa.     After taking some pics of the spa for this review, Jenetth, my therapist, walked me to our treatment room, and explained the steps of the Doctor Babor Facial.   Main active ingredients from the biogen plant extract are: Rosemary: stimulateing, regenerating Ginseng: revitalizing Nettle: stimulates the circulation, astringent Figwort: used in homeopathy to treat eczema Watercress: soothes skin rashes Sorrel: used in homeopath to alleviate general skin disorders Fumitory: used in homeopathy to treat eczema Bladder wrack: supplies moisture and stimulates the circulation   This is not a feeble facialRead More

Ginkgo Spa At Steenberg Hotel – Review

Steenberg

With the magnificent Steenberg Mountains as its backdrop lies Steenberg Spa, surrounded by the lush vineyards of Steenberg Wine Estate near Tokai. Operated by the Gingko Spa & Wellness Group, the minute you enter the spa, you’re greeted by warm smiles and a cool modern interior.     After being welcomed by Lurinda and introduced to my therapist Julia, I was ushered into the ladies cloakroom to a personal locker for storing my valuables and to change into a soft robe, those ‘gorgeous’ disposable knickers, take home spa slippers and a much appreciated cold bottle of water and small sample of day cream. A handy personalised card was also popped into the locker with details of the Cellulite treatment to follow.   Once suitably robed, Julia escorted me to the softly lit lounging room – kept at the perfect temperature with a fireplace for chilly days – where you areRead More

TheraVine Product Review

Anti-Bac-SebuVine-Serum

TheraVine South Africa sent me some products to review, and as I had recently received some TheraVine products at the Fresh Wellness launch, I thought I would include these in this review as well.   Quick background info on TheraVine for those of you that might not know. TheraVine is a South African vine-derived face & body treatment range. It combines the latest technology with Grapeseed by-products and essential oils & botanicals all from the Western Cape.   Being a Proudly South African & Western Cape girl, and not to forget my fondness for a good ‘glassie’, this sounded like a match made in heaven.   Let me take you through some of the products that I’ve been lucky enough to try:   TheraVine Antic-Bac Sebuvine Serum – R305 “A quick absorbing, light textured serum treatment that destroys bacteria, regulates oil production to prevent break outs and helps clear existing blemishes”.  Read More

RegimA Peels

RegimA products that I received after the peel

I know that some of my friends are pretty wary of peels and thought that some of you might feel the same.  As I was recently invited to experience a RegimA peel, I wanted to share it with you, so that you had a clearer insight into what a peel is and does.   Linda from Kinetic Contours @ The Blue Door, and RegimA invited me to have a peel done last week. I have what some call adult acne or hormonal break outs once a month, and I absolutely hate them. Obviously because they don’t do anything for my vanity or self confidence, but mainly because these buggers are actually darn sore. They come out of nowhere and just sit there for days, even weeks and you just cannot do anything to them except try to avoid them like the plague.   I had heard that peels are greatRead More

Kinetic Contours @ The Blue Door (Lipomassage Give-Away)

Have any of you tried or even heard of Endermologie? I thought not! Which is why I was super curious to find out more and experience it at Kinetic Contours.   Kinetic Contours has been around for several years, but has recently finished renovations at their brand new location, just around the corner of their old premises, and can be easily found at The Blue Door.     To say that owner Linda is a perfectionist, is an understatement. Every room is not only beautifully decorated, but also completely impeccable, with everything neatly and exactly in its place, and all therapists are highly trained and experienced.   Emily is the exceedingly experienced therapist that does the Endermologie and Lipomassage treatments. She only needed to assess my body for a few minutes to affirm that I definitely needed Endermologie (all over body treatment) rather than Lipomassage (targeted for specific areas). Tip Top Nails Review & Give-Away

Iced-Almond1

A while ago I was sent some Nail Chic polish from Tip Top Nails to review.   Tip Top Nails is a South African brand (Yes – I love supporting proudly South African) that creates vegan, Toxin Free (No Formaldehyde, Toluene, Dibuthyl Phthalate or Camphor) polishes made from natural ingredients, which are not tested on animals. I also give them a huge colourful ‘thumbs up’ for this!   They sent me 3 polishes: 1) The All-in-One! Base & Top Coat     Base & Top Coat     2) Pink Lady 3) Iced Almond First up I immediately tried the All-in-One mainly as I don’t get time to do my nails and let them dry with two little rascals running around. This polish also promotes growth & strengthens while adding natural colour & shine and it is quick drying. And it does just as it says – natural shining colour that driesRead More

Ever Filed Your Nails With Swarovski Crystal?

Let the pampering begin. Crystal nail files with Swarovski detailing fit for a queen.     As a mom to a toddler in nappies I need to keep my nails short or I end up poking or scratching the poor little guy too often.   By now you all know that I love being pampered, but I’m pretty bad at doing any pampering for myself, so my nails often take a back seat in the attention department.   However, when I opened my package from Mont Bleu and pulled out these beautiful glass nail files with Swarovski crystals, I immediately fell in love. Firstly, becauses they are obviously very pretty, but also as this will surely make me spend more time grooming my talons.   They arrived really quickly – about a week or so, and were packaged in black velvet pouches. I received two sizes, the regular 13.5cm andRead More
