D’vine Skin & Body – Review

I was invited to experience D’vines Signature Ritual – a 2h30 pampering session which includes a revitalising foot soak, an Indian Head Massage, a full body polish, a steam room session and ends off with a full body massage.   This was my first visit to D’Vine and once again I ventured out to the Northern Suburbs on a very wet and gloomy day. I’ve come to enjoy my longish drives out to different Spas in and around Cape Town, but these winter downpours are not fun to navigate.   Arriving at D’Vine, I was surprised by how big the spa is. It was wonderfully toasty inside and after I sat down for a quick chat with owner Liezel, I was shown around the gorgeous Spa by Bronwyn.   Location D’vine Skin and Body can be found in The Vineyards Office Estate in Welgemoed. They are pretty close toRead More

Contemporary chic meets classic cool at Milk and Honey Boutique spa. Describing itself as a luxury spa offering personalised treatments in an exquisite setting, I have to agree. Though fairly new to the spa scene, I can see why Milk & Honey is all about expert treatment, warm hospitality and individual attention.   Location Milk & Honey Boutique Spa can be found in the trendy suburb of Bantry Bay within O on Kloof Boutique Hotel. Located on the corner of King and Kloof Streets, there are a few hotel parking bays on King Road and ample street parking on Kloof.   Welcome From the moment I was warmly ushered through the crisp and utterly elegant interior of the hotel, I was given the 5-star treatment. Lindie, owner of Milk & Honey, is professional, charming and funny and has a wealth of international and cruise ship experience and boy, does itRead More

Rolling In The Kalahari Sands

How lucky am I to be invited once again to experience not one but two very different treatments at Kimya Spa?   The first treatment was a 15 min Fish Therapy session which I had never tried before and then I would be pampered with a 60 min Kalahari Rolling Sands Massage.   I was a little bit nervous trying the Fish Therapy, which is basically lots of tiny fish nibbling away at your feet. Luckily Kim was going to be my therapist again, and as I had such an amazing experience with her previously, I was quickly put at ease. The Treatment We started with their signature foot ritual where your feet are cleansed with a salt scrub and rinsed with warm water.     The wonderfully amazing Kim     Next up was the Fish Therapy and as you can see in this video below, it was prettyRead More

legs

Yvette from Serayu Beauty invited me for Laser Hair Removal at her Salon.   I chose to do a ½ leg as that is the area that I would love to be hair free the most. Pre kids I had time for my monthly Spa treatments and religiously had my wax, facial and pedi, but now I’ve had to resort back to shaving in the shower, as I just can’t seem to get my act together anymore.     Serayu Beauty uses the latest Lumines Light Sheer Duet Laser – a new generation in hair removal.       Watch this short video to see the Laser in action and learn why this laser system works so well.     The 3 things that impressed me most: It uses an innovative vacuum technology which basically pulls the skin closer to the laser light – it feels like a bigRead More

microdermabrasion

A few months ago I went to the Dr Brandt Launch at Just Skin Aesthetics Clinic. Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow swear by Dr Brandt’s Lineless skincare range while Kelly Ripa, Emma Rossum and Lenny Kravitz are fans of his other skincare solutions.   Even though I was adamant that I was not going to buy anything (as if!), I was pretty impressed with a couple of the products, and they had a Special Offer which was really good value for money, so I hauled out my credit card and walked away with some products and a lovely Free Gift for good measure. I was going away that weekend, so I didn’t get a chance to test the products until a week later, and I have been meaning to tell you about one product in particular, the Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Face Cream.    What it is: A poweful at-home alternative to aRead More

lady

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting two wonderful women at Serayu Beauty Salon in Durbanville. Being an ex Durbanville girl, I was looking forward to visiting my old stomping ground. Location Yvette Adonis recently acquired Serayu Beauty and has been upgrading this beauty salon allowing clients to indulge in even more beauty and slimming treatments.  Situated in Sadre Park, there is parking in front of the Salon but as these were taken I found parking across the road. Welcome Although I always try to arrive early, I had forgotten that this was the last day of term and as we also had a teacher’s farewell that morning 🙁 , I had to do some speeding up the N1 to try and get there on time. Yvette was there to meet me and even though she was multitasking, she had a sense of organised calm about her. Facilities Serayu is decoratedRead More

All weekend I was looking forward to my Elixir massage at Ginkgo Spa. Janine had invited me to experience this signature treatment and my back and shoulders were in serious need of some pampering after sitting behind my computer for so many hours. Location There are several Ginkgo Spas located in luxurious hotels in the Western Cape. Ginkgo Spa at the Winchester Mansions Hotel overlooks the spectacular Sea Point promenade. I’d been to the Winchester Mansions Hotel before, for Sunday brunch (amazing), but had not yet had the pleasure of visiting the Spa. Welcome For once I did manage to arrive early and upon meeting Janine I was offered a delicious cup of chai tea (I want more) and filled in the obligatory consultation form. Janine and I chatted for a little while, where after she showed me around the Spa. This is the original Ginkgo Spa (there are 4Read More

Smoothe Boutique Beauty in Eden on the Bay

Smoothe-03

Cathy Gee generously invited me to experience Smoothe’s Winter Warmer Package that they sponsored for our June Competition. Location Staring in my rear view mirror I saw the last rays of sunshine disappearing into  the distance as I bravely barrelled down the N1 towards Blouberg and tarmac coloured clouds. With my feet warmly ensconced in my hubby’s socks and my winter boots, I turned up the heater and I braced myself for a long, wet journey.   Surprisingly I really enjoyed the drive. It was so peaceful, no incessant babbling from our 4 year old, no business musings from hubby and no screeching baby. Keeping the radio purposefully switched off I enjoyed the blissful silence.   After a law enforced 60 km/hour crawl (I passed a cop earlier and could still feel his beady eyes on me), I suddenly realised that I had no idea where I was. As aRead More

kimya-spa-front

A few months ago I walked past this elegant yet unassuming Spa called Kimya in Camps Bay, and popped in to get a treatment and price list. What immediately impressed me was the warmth and friendliness of the ladies who made me feel really welcome, even though I was just picking up a brochure.   When I was invited by Aashika to experience a Slimming Detox Wrap, I was certainly looking forward to visiting them again.   Location Kimya Spa opened in May 2011 and is situated in The Promenade on Victoria Road in the heart of Camps Bay. There is ample parking inside the Promenade which is always an important factor to me, with regard to safety and convenience.  Welcome I arrived early so that I could meet Aashika before my treatment and was greeted warmly and openly. There are some glorious Kalahari testers while you wait in the frontRead More

SW1 Spa Retreat in Somerset West

I was treated by a dear friend to a half day spa experience for two at SW1 Spa Retreat in Somerset West. I’m going to come right out and say that I have mixed reviews about our experience. I had looked up their website and did have high hopes, but they had cancelled on me once as two of their staff had just resigned, so I was holding thumbs.  I finally got my husband to agree to take some time off work (as their weekends were fully booked) and off we went. I had a bit of a cold but am always ready to be pampered. Location SW1 is in Somerset West and is situated in a residential area. The outside does not really do it justice as once you enter, it feels like an intimate version of a holiday resort. There are stunning views over the ocean and itRead More
