I received these gorgeous fragranced body wash gifts from LUX to test and review, and a few extra to hand out to family and friends and find out what they think about these as well.   We received the Soft Touch and the Sheer Twilight.   Composed by one of the world’s best perfume experts, Calice Becker (Who also created Beyonce Paradise, J’adore and Tommy Girl)  Lux Soft Touch has alluring fine fragrances that inspire and empower women.   The LUX fragranced body wash lathers up well, so you only need to use a small amount.    I definitely prefer the Sheer Twilight body wash which is fragranced with pearls of black orchid and juniper oil.  The perfume claims to last up to 8 hours, and although I can’t smell it on myself, my husband did say that I smelt nice.   Have you tried either of these before? And ifRead More

My Neostrata Peel Experience

mask-on

In my quest to turn back the clock, I contacted Dr Alek Nikolec and he designed a ‘programme’ of treatments that I’ll document as we go along.   First we did Botox, and shortly afterwards I was back for a Neostrata peel.   What skin problems would you use a Neostrata peel for? A Neostrata peel regimen visibly diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles, smoothes and softens skin, increases hydration and suppleness, and balances irregular skin tones. It can also improve oily/acne prone skin. Higher strengths can help to reduce the appearance of acne scarring and certain pigmentation problems. It can also be used safely and effectively on all skin types.   Treatment The lovely Vashnee cleaned my face of all make-up and de-greased my skin so that the glycolic acid can reach the skin for best results.   The Neostrata peel is one of the newest type of peels thatRead More

My Botox Experience – Before, During & After

I’ve been considering getting Botox for a while now and finally got the courage to not only do it, but I also decided to document my journey.   I contacted Dr Alek Nikolic, who has been my ‘go to’ expert in my ‘Ask The Experts’ section on Aesthetic procedures.    After a consultation we decided to do Botox, Neostrata peels, and fillers to target some of the areas and skin issues that I’m not that happy with.   I have to admit to being quite nervous to document this, as I know that there are many people who would never do this, but it’s for all those people in the middle, who are interested but not totally sure, perhaps a bit scared, that I wanted to document my journey, so that they can make an informed decision.    I’m not advocating that anyone should have any of these treatments, butRead More

[Review] Lipidol Sunscreen Oil

sunscreen_01

I was sent the latest Lipidol sunscreen oil with SPF 20 to test and review, which arrived at exactly the right time, just Summer in Cape Town.   Even though it’s an oil, which usually triggers thoughts of sunburn, rather than sun protection, this protects your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, while supplementing your skin’s natural oily layer at the same time.     I was happy to note that it does absorb quickly but it does still feel a bit oily if you apply a lot. So apply sparingly if you’re going to the beach for example. However, saying that, my son was rolling in the sand and I managed to wipe off most of the sand before he got into the car, so it’s probably similar to creamy sunscreens.   My skin felt really moisturized at the end of the day, and no sunburn inRead More

[Review] African Extracts Rooibos

ae-webslide_advantage-16

African Extracts Rooibos just sent me some of their  Advantage Range of products to test and review. I usually like to use products I’m sent without researching them too much at first, to get a real feel for the products without being influenced by price or other people’s opinions.     Even though I do quite a bit of research when it comes to beauty products, I’ve never studied the science behind it, so I really like to go on gut feel as well. I tend to find that some products stay at the front of the shelf and I tend to reach for them on a daily basis, while others slowly migrate to the back of the cupboard, because they lack the Wow! factor in my opinion.   My initial feeling towards the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Range is very positive. I love that it’s a local brand,Read More

Gold Elements I received 3 full sized products from Gold Elements in the United States to test and review.    All their products contain 24K gold powder which has several great skin care properties, which include anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, improves blood circulation and reduces the production of melanin. The gorgeous gold powder also makes the product glow beautifully as well.   Apart from the gold powder, they focus on using a host of wonderful products like, chamomile, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Witch Hazel, Sweet Almond oil and Jojoba. These all work towards hydrating the skin, reducing find lines, even discoloration, interrupt free radical damage, soften the skin and help promote the growth of new skin cells.    Phew what more can we ask for?   Well, actually, they’re also serious about excluding any parabens, animal derivatives, mineral oil and artificial colours.    Gold Elements offers different lines of products for different ages and price ranges.Read More

[Review] Ordinary Skincare

product

Ordinary Skincare I read about Dr Claire Jamieson’s skincare range and immediately desperately wanted to try it as it seemed just what the doctor ordered for my rosacea-prone, sensitive and sometimes dehydrated skin. Also having recently gone through some health issues, my skin urgently needed some TLC in the form of products that would heal and soothe.   Made locally, the Ordinary skincare range has been developed especially for people with “hardworking skin” (mine definitely fits the bill!)  and they marry the finest that nature offers with the best of modern science. Plus, all the ingredients are safe and ethically sourced using sustainable ingredients and tested only on humans. What’s not to love?   I was lucky enough to test a range of products which I can now honestly say have fulfilled all of my expectations and more. The  award-winning Cleanser is exactly what I require in that it’s soap-Read More

L’oreal Paris Revitalift Filler Renew Range Review

Revitalift-Range

I received the L’oreal Revitalift Filler Renew Range to review and have been using them everyday for the last two weeks. The range consists of the Hyaluronic Replumping Serum, the Filler Precision Eye Cream, the Anti-Ageing Day Replumping Care and the Anti-Ageing Night Replumping Care. In reviewing these products, I must first highlight that these are OTC (Over The Counter) products, which I don’t believe should be compared to doctor prescribed cosmeceuticals.  All products retail for R284.95,  available at Clicks and Dischem.   Hyaluronic Replumping Serum “This is not a Dermalogical Filler however, it will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and replump the look of skin contours.  This serum is 10x more concentrated with hyaluronic acid than the average L’Oreal Paris day cream” Pros: It contains hyaluronic acid, which is great for restoring moisture to your skin. I also absolutely love the innovative, fun packaging. It looks like a syringe whichRead More
