[Review] Skin Miles

I am a big believer in shopping online— mostly because I am too busy to actually hit the shops and it is very convenient. But, I had no idea that skincare uniquely chosen for my specific skin issues, could also be ordered online.   Skin Miles offers you the chance to have a “consultation” with renowned aesthetic medical practitioner, Dr Alek Nikolic and then receive your products to your home. What a novel and fantastic idea!   It’s pretty simple—I filled out on online form about my skin, my major concerns and skin challenges as well as what I was looking for in products and which products I already was using. My main concerns this winter were dehydration, anti-ageing and pigmentation and I was also very anxious about not provoking a flare-up of my rosacea, which appears mostly in times of stress but can also be aggravated by products and foods.Read More

[Review] Elgydium Whitening & Sensitive Toothpaste

I received the Elgydium Whitening and Sensitive toothpastes to review.    I have to be upfront here and tell you that for the last 10 years, I have ONLY used a herbal toothpaste from Europe that is more salty than sweet.  My main concern with testing a toothpaste was that it would be sweet and frothy like most regular types in SA.    I tried the whitening toothpaste first, as I don’t really have sensitive teeth and hey – who wouldn’t want whiter teeth!   I’m very relieved to be able to revert that Elgydium is not super sweet at all.  I have been happily using it, and it isn’t very foamy either. I was very pleasantly surprised. I know that this is a very personal requirement, but I just can’t bear to brush my teeth with a sugary, foamy substance.   I haven’t been using it long enough to see the whiteningRead More

[Review] Eau Thermale Avene Hydrating Serum

I’m sure you’ve also experienced that awkward moment when you have a facial and the therapist starts listing all the things wrong with your skin.   The most confusing thing to me is that my skin always seems dehydrated. I use a day and night moisturiser religiously, and am lucky to test different serums, plus I drinks LOADS of water, so I’m sure I’m doing a lot for my skin, yet I’m always told that my skin is dehydrated.   Hydrance Optimale – Hydrating Serum for Dehydrated Sensitive Skin   So this little bottle came at the perfect time for me to review. Firstly, it’s Winter, so my skin is in even more need of TLC, and secondly I’m off to Europe on holiday, and that plane trip doesn’t do anything good for your skin.     Where Does Avene come from? The Avene thermal spring rises in Southern France,Read More

BVLGARI Omnia Paraiba Review

I’ve just received the latest fragrance by BVLGARI – the 6th perfume in the Omnia for women series. Omnia in the Urban dictionary refers a scale used to describe sheer perfection. Ranging from 1 to Omnia. Omnia being the highest.  This perfume was inspired by one of the most unique gems on earth, the radiant Paraiba Tourmaline of Brazil, which is blue-green in colour.   BVLGARI Omnia Paraiba was developed by perfumer Alberto Morillas. It features notes of Laraha orange, passion fruit and flower, gardenia, sugar cane, vetiver and cacao bean.    It is quite sweet (orange) but not over overpoweringly so. The passion fruit flower also comes through quite strongly.  Omnia Paraiba is a sophisticated warm, sweet fragrance, and makes me yearn for a Summer evening on a beach in Brazil. Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner Review

I’ve just received this Argan Oil Shampoo &  Conditioner to review.        It is priced really well at only R59.95 each.   I wasn’t impressed with the packaging to be honest. The shampoo lid didn’t close properly, and therefore the product leaked a bit in the shower, and the brown and blue reminds me too much of the HASK Argan oil range.    That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with the product itself. It contains several oils, including Castor, Argan, Olive, Coconut and Avocado, and together they definitely give your hair shine and leaves it nice and smooth.    I was initially worried that I might have to wash my hair more often, due to all the oils, but this wasn’t the case at all.   It also has an amazing fragrance, which doesn’t fade.     So even though I’m not impressed with the packaging,  andRead More

Euphrates Review

face-range

I’ve just discovered a new South African face care range called Euphrates, which is a woman founded cosmetics company, targeting uneven toned skin, acne, blemishes and excessive oily skin on behalf of every woman who struggles to have that naturally healthy and radiant skin.   I requested to review the Tropic Rain Scrub and Night Cream.   100ml Tropic Rain Scrub – R150  The Tropic Rain Scrub is suitable for all skin types. It is an exfoliating face scrub.   It causes the cells of the epidermis to become “unglued” allowing the dead skin cells to slough off, making room for re-growth of new skin. The Super Moisturizing Fruit Acid Complex leaves your skin with improved texture and colour.   The Tropic Rain Scrub contains Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs), which posses some of the following benefits:   BHAs are used for people with acne-prone or oily skin types because of the excellentRead More

What To Ask Your Hairdresser

essence-summer

I’m sure you’ve all had to go through that super annoying process of finding a new GP, hair dresser etc, when you move to a new place.   Luckily we now have social media to check on who’s who in your new local area, avoiding making too many mistakes along the way.   Even though I was adamant that I would drive back to visit my hairdresser, I eventually did cave and decide to find someone local.   After a few attempts we finally found my ‘goldilocks’ colour (not too dark and not too light), but I was thinking that I could have helped speed up this process if I’d paid more attention and known more about what had been used on my hair previously.   So, I decided to ask my current stylist at Style Bar in Constantia Village what we should know to ensure a smooth transition from one stylist toRead More

Fresh Summer Look For Over 40’s

Finished Summer Look

Just because I’m over 40 doesn’t mean that I don’t still covet that fresh faced Summer look.   Most days I tend to just whip on some BB cream, add a bit of blusher and a touch of mascara and I’m good to go. However, with more pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles, I do need to work a bit harder to achieve a natural look, when I want more coverage as well.   Yip, natural does not necessarily mean less, just the right products in the right colour, applied properly.   I was recently sent a few gorgeous new products from Essence and thought I’d share my fresh Summer look using some of these, and other favourites on my shelf.   I’ve just started using the AA Meso Lazer Wrinkle Decreasing Day Cream for 40+ and even though I preferred the texture of the Sensitive Skin day cream at first,Read More
