Fresh Summer Look For Over 40’s

Finished Summer Look

Just because I’m over 40 doesn’t mean that I don’t still covet that fresh faced Summer look.   Most days I tend to just whip on some BB cream, add a bit of blusher and a touch of mascara and I’m good to go. However, with more pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles, I do need to work a bit harder to achieve a natural look, when I want more coverage as well.   Yip, natural does not necessarily mean less, just the right products in the right colour, applied properly.   I was recently sent a few gorgeous new products from Essence and thought I’d share my fresh Summer look using some of these, and other favourites on my shelf.   I’ve just started using the AA Meso Lazer Wrinkle Decreasing Day Cream for 40+ and even though I preferred the texture of the Sensitive Skin day cream at first,Read More

Sensitive Skin Day Cream

AAsemirich

My latest discovery is a wonderful moisturiser from AA Cosmetics.   Distributed by the same people that brought us Hean, this is a moisturiser for sensitive skin, with 0% allergens, parabens, or color additives.   This fragrance free, semi-rich 24 hour cream is recommended for normal and dry skin. It feels absolutely amazing on my skin, however I did find it to be slightly too rich for daytime use IF I’m in a rush and want to apply my usual foundation immediately afterwards. It does however absorb beautifully after a few minutes, and I use it generously on my neck and decollete as well.   It contains 1% Vitamin E (an antioxidant that protects and repairs your skin) and 2% Allantoin (stimulating new skin cell growth,  anti-inflammatory properties and soothes skin irritation).   I’ve subsequently found many more products on their website that I’d like to try.   Their website highlights whichRead More

collection

Looking Good LCN celebrates 13 years of success as the sole importer and distributor of LCN products, from Wilde Cosmetics in Germany, reaching the whole of Southern Africa and stretching into Angola, Swaziland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Ghana.   Looking Good LCN recently showcased what’s hot and happening for Spring/Summer 2015.       The Under The Sea collection features some brand new nail polish trend colours for Spring. ‘Do you Speak Coral’ and ‘Lobster Love Affair’ are definitely two of my favourites.   When it comes to make-up, their lipgloss colours are rich in pigment and super glossy.     The Cover me in Diamonds Dust highlight powder is a definite must-have for the season.   See You In Ibiza highlights their Summer colours which are slightly lighter and definitely a whole lot of fun to try.   LCN also has a Bronzing Dry Oil which is going to be anotherRead More

UCook Review

Oven-Baked-Salmon

Recently I discovered another wonderful food delivery service called UCook, where you receive EVERYTHING you need to cook 3 delicious meals, including the recipe and the freshest, yummiest ingredients. Their recipes are created from scratch from a number of chefs, including the winner of the Italian Masterchef TV series Lapo Magni, Nic Tonglet who has worked at the Test Kitchen and Pot Luck Club under the mastermind Luke Dale-Roberts, and Janne Molzen a lecturer at Silwood. The end product is a balanced healthy meal that is both nutritious and delicious. You can find out more information on the chefs who created each recipe, by reading their chef bio at the bottom of the menu page. I was given the opportunity to test their service, and we chose the L-carb menu for our family.   We checked the expiry dates and selected to prepare the Oven Baked Salmon first. My kids absolutely love fish (luckily!) soRead More

When Your Hair Needs Some Super Pampering

all-three

Winter seems to be the time for launching new hair care products as I received three different brands to test and review.   As I thought it might be of interest to my readers, I wanted to do a comparison of all three for this blog post. The three product ranges are as follows: 1. Terenzo – Liquid Hiar – Terenzo Hairdressing Haircare Range2. Wella Professionals – Elements 3. Label.m – Brightening Blonde Shampoo     Terenzo The Terenzo Liquid Hair is a range for stressed and damaged hair which instantly repairs, nourishes and strengthens. The key ingredients are Hydrolysed Collagen and Q10, Silk Amino Acid, MEA 18, 6 Oils and Pantheon.   Retail price:  Shampoo R310, Conditioner R295   I was seriously impressed by how nourishing this conditioner was and yet how light my hair felt afterwards. There’s nothing like a good salon shampoo and the Terenzo Professional Haircare range worked wondersRead More

Bella Essenza Spa Review

We can all definitely appreciate visiting a big brand spa where we expect well trained staff and good quality products. However, there is something very convenient about your local, smaller spa where you get a more personalised experience.   So how about getting the best of both worlds?   Ulandi offers just this in her home based spa in the Northern Suburbs.  Having trained at Isa Carstens Academy, she then gained significant experience at SKIN Wellness as a thereapist and manageress, before opening  The Urban Spa in 2006.  She finally opened her home-based spa called Bella Essenza in Durbanville.   Having grown up in Durbanville, many years ago, I was keen to visit my old hood again and see what Ulandi had to offer.   I was treated to the Optiphi Class Full Age Defying Facial – 80 min – R650   I asked Ulandi why she chose Optiphi for her clients: “It isRead More

Essence Gel Nail Polish Review

essence gel

Most of us have tried one of the many in salon gel manicure’s (Bio-Sculpture, Shellac, Gelish). As much as I love that a gel mani does not chip and can last up to 3 weeks, the one little niggle I have is that you can’t really remove the gel yourself and have to go back to the salon to have it removed properly. And, yes, I’m guilty of removing it myself (trying to copy the nail technician with foils on my nails). Somehow I don’t seem to do as good a job.   I’d heard a beauty editor mention the latest Essence gel polish and was VERY keen to try it.   It’s not like the salon gel manicure’s, but the next generation of nail polish that you apply like our normal polish at home (no lamp needed), but has an incredibly long-lasting gel like effect.   I received these twoRead More

Threading – The New Non-Surgical Face Lift

Pulling the skin up the thread

I was pretty excited to attend a threading demonstration at Skin & Body Renewal by Dr Maureen at their Greenpoint spa, as I’ve heard a bit about this new technique but really wanted to know more and who best to learn from than Dr Maureen herself.   Some of you might have heard of threadlifts several years ago but these are totally different absorbable polymer threads.   What are the benefits of threading? Threading can be viewed as a non-surgical facelift. Depending on which threads you use, you can lift and/or firm the skin.   It improves skin tone, texture, pigmentation, scarring and stretch marks, as well as fat reduction. These results are long lasting as new collagen is produced.   How does it work? The threads have tiny barbs in them which hook onto the skin and allow you to lift the skin up. Secondly, the increased blood flow produces moreRead More

The Tan Lab Review

All

Being in constant pursuit of the perfect tan I’ve tried many sunless tanning products – some decidedly better than others.   Applying your tan is an art form in itself as you don’t want those tell tale streaks or patchy ankles & heels.   I was recently sent a package from The Tan Lab to test and review, which had some interesting new qualities.     Here’s some interesting background info from their website:   “After extensive product testing and research we established that many sunless tanning products contain only one active tanning ingredient – DHA (Dihydroxyacetone). Those containing a combination of Erythrulose and DHA proved to last longer, fade evenly and did not streak.   So, why didn’t all sunless tanning products contain Erythrulose? Firstly, it is much more expensive in comparison to DHA and secondly it takes longer to develop.   At The Tan Lab, we have created aRead More

Cinderella1

I’m a huge Morgan Taylor fan, so you can imagine my excitement when I was sent a pre-launch press pack of 3 gorgeous new shades from their Limited Cinderella 2015 Edition.   I wasn’t home when it was delivered, but my son told me that “Prince Charming came, dressed in a wedding suit, and brought you something!”   The presentation with glass slipper was truly impressive.   Collaborating with and drawing inspiration from Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action film Cinderella, the collection includes six NEW shades:   Party at the Palace (iridescent teal) My Carriage Awaits (coral creme) Watch Your Step, Sister! (hot pink creme) If the Slipper Fits (light blue glitter) Ella of a Girl (light pink creme) Best Ball Gown Ever (iridescent periwinkle)   I received Watch Your Step, Sister!
