Fresh Summer Look For Over 40’s

Posted on by Anouschka in Product Reviews, Reviews

Just because I’m over 40 doesn’t mean that I don’t still covet that fresh faced Summer look.

Most days I tend to just whip on some BB cream, add a bit of blusher and a touch of mascara and I’m good to go. However, with more pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles, I do need to work a bit harder to achieve a natural look, when I want more coverage as well.

Yip, natural does not necessarily mean less, just the right products in the right colour, applied properly.

I was recently sent a few gorgeous new products from Essence and thought I’d share my fresh Summer look using some of these, and other favourites on my shelf.

Did I use all this?

I’ve just started using the AA Meso Lazer Wrinkle Decreasing Day Cream for 40+ and even though I preferred the texture of the Sensitive Skin day cream at first, after 2 weeks, I’ve definitely noticed that my skin is much firmer, smoother and I’m even getting a healthier glow. This is an amazing day cream for anyone over 40.

Most moisturisers do contain some SPF but I usually add some extra anyway, especially to my neck and chest as well as you tend to forget about this area until it’s too late. My current favourite is the Vichy Capital Soleil Spf 50, but I’m also a Heliocare fan.

A brilliant new find is from HEAN and it’s their Perfect Make-Up Base, which you apply under your foundation. I also tried the Optiphi Set The Canvas, which is nice, but I definitely prefer the HEAN which smooths your skin and preps it for your make-up to last longer. My friend immediately noticed that my skin looked amazing when I’d used this.

Note: this product is sold out 😥 but will be back in stock from Glamore Cosmetics in January 2016 – and they do have some samples so be sure to request one when ordering from their website.

Next apply your foundation. My favourite is still the Clarins True Radiance. I have been trying some others like the Max Factor Skin Luminizer, which isn’t as nice in texture but is extremely long wearing and the beige shade perfectly matches my skin tone.

If you have any blemishes (who doesn’t) then the Essence Pro Nude Concealer is really lovely to use. It is soft and easily blends and smooths, covering up any spots and dark circles.

For Summer I always like to add some colour using either the Physicians Formula Riviera Strip/ Sand Bronzer or the Body Shop Brush On Bronze.

Next I used the Essence matt touch blush in 20 berry me up! to add some colour to my cheeks – really soft feminine pink which is perfect for Summer.

I still have some Benefit Highbeam which I love adding to the top of my cheekbone as a highlighter as well.

For eyes I used the Wet & Wild eye-shadow.  I love how it indicates which to use for you eyelid, crease and brow. I just used a bit of the brow colour to highlight.

I’m trying two new mascaras from Essence and they both rock. Seriously the only mascara I would buy right now. I have very short lashes and the ‘Lash Princess‘ just lengthens and shapes them beautifully. The ‘I Like Long Lashes‘ is not as lengthening but if you already have long lashes then this brush is great for defined single lashes without any clumping at all.

As it’s daytime I didn’t do a full eyeliner but rather just a very thin line with the Essence Smokey 2in1 khol liner. It’s wonderfully soft and super easy to apply and lasts forever.

The latest 2in1 liquid lipstick from Essence combines the coverage of a lipstick with the shine of a gloss. Super cute packaging in a range of fresh summer colours. It doesn’t last forever, but has a nice texture and fragrance.

Lastly, I added a bit of sparkle to my decollete and hair with the LCN Cover Me In Diamond Dust.

So what do you think? Good coverage but still a natural look for Summer. What’s your favourite product to use for your Summer look?
