Miha Bodytec Training Review

Posted on by Anouschka in Latest News, Reviews, Spa Reviews | 12 Comments

I was invited by Kinetic Contours, to experience a revolutionary whole body training called miha bodytec.   “It is a full body training exercise using impulse current. Muscles are stimulated through the electrodes while you do a series of low-impact exercises. This combined training leads to an additional increase of tension producing highly effective training results. The personal trainer can control each muscle group individually by adjusting the training intensity according to your individual goals. “ SOURCE   OMW – this will give you the most intense and most effective full-body workout that you can imagine.   I’ve often wondered how celebrities look so good, as surely they don’t have time to go to the gym everyday. I think this might be one of their hidden secrets. (I see that Arno Carstens has his weekly bodytec fix too.)   I was completely unaware of what I was signing up for, so hadRead More

Rain Urban Boutique Spa JHB Review

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | 1 Comment

A whiplash injury and poor posture exacerbated by my job as a writer ensures that most of my stress is carried in my back. A total massage aficionado, I’ve tried massages in every country I’ve ever travelled to (including an Ayurvedic Indian massage- horrid; an Shiatsu Japanese massage- hard and good; a soothing Balinese massage and a professional Thai massage- excellent).   I’m fairly cynical when it comes to massages, as I need deep tissue to really make an impact on my knots. Nonetheless, I am excited to try out the new RAIN salon’s full body massage in the heart of The Rosebank Zone.     The salon, which is exclusively for women, is absolutely beautiful with a modern and airy deco in blue and white.  It also smells divine. If I really use my imagination, perhaps I can even forget I haven’t left the country and pretend I’m inRead More

Hair Growth Cycles & Why It is So NB To Understand Them

Posted on by Anouschka in Ask The Experts, Reviews, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

Starting my Smooth For Life journey with Legs eleven has been an amazing learning experience so far.   If you recall, my first appointment had to be postponed as I had to take certain medication which was contra-indicated with having treatment.   After waiting 4 weeks, I finally saw Cynthia again and we started my hair free journey.   Starting my Journey   I’ve opted to start my journey on my legs as I hate shaving them and always seem to cut myself.     As usual I was met by a friendly and well groomed receptionist and then waited a few minutes while Cynthia chatted to her previous client.   We had done a  patch test at our initial consultation, so now she shaved my legs (dry so that no hairs stick to the skin) and then we started with the treatment.   They use standard ultra soundRead More

Sorbet Dry Bar JHB – Review

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | 2 Comments

There comes a time in a women’s life when she needs to stop fighting nature. Until the age of about 21, I used to blowdry my hair straight each time I washed it. That’s a lot of time spent trying to get the natural kinks out of my unruly hair. Accepting that my hair is curly was very liberating for me and now, I have learnt to work with my locks instead of against them.   But, this is not always easy do to. Over and above being curly, my hair is also dry and frizzy and occasionally very knotty. I haven’t owned a hairdryer since 1995 but do invest in top quality products to try and tame the mane.   About 3 weeks ago, I was asked by eTV to provide some commentary on the 2013 Academy Awards. Having appeared on TV various times, I do know thatRead More

Africology Anti-Oxidant Serum

Posted on by Anouschka in Anti-Aging, Product Reviews, Reviews | Leave a comment

Every month I’ll not only be reviewing the Rubybox subscription beauty box for you, but I will also be choosing a product to review from their beauty store as well. How lucky am I!   I’m really excited to be able to trying the Africology Anti-Oxidant Serum as I’ve been convinced for a while now that we all need to add a serum to our daily anti-aging routine.   I wrote an article about this last year and listed the Africology Anti-Oxidant Serum as one of the serums that I’d like to try.   What are antioxidants? In the simplest of terms, they are molecules that can inhibit the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which can contribute to cell damage.   What does an anti-oxidant serum do? In the context of skin care, the use of a serum containing antioxidants can greatly enhance any skin careRead More

Rubybox Review Feb 2013 [VIDEO]

Posted on by Anouschka in Product Reviews, Reviews | Leave a comment

Every month I like giving you feedback on what was in that month’s Rubybox, so that you can decide if it’s something you’d like to try.   You can subscribe to Rubybox until the 26th of each month and get it within the first two weeks of the following month, so you won’t have to wait long for your suprise beauty box.   One of the main things that I love about receiving the Rubybox is that you get to try products that would otherwise not only cost you lots of money, but also products that you might never have discovered.   Sometimes I might not like the product, and that’s perfect, as at least I’ve satisfied my curiosity. And when I do find a little gem then I know I’ve found something to treasure for ever.   So let’s get down to finding out What’s In The Box?  Read More

Polish Nail Spa Review

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews | 3 Comments

I’ve wanted to review Polish in The Parks Centre for a long time as many of my friends go there and rave about it. So, I am really excited about it.   I’m welcomed by the friendly Lexi and at 9am in the morning; the light, bright salon is already buzzing with clientele all happily chatting away.     Hey, I’ve spotted Marie Claire editor Aspasia Karras and she tells me that it’s the only place she’ll come to get her digits done.   Boy, am I badly in need of this maintenance mani/pedi! I haven’t been able to make time since I got back from my holiday in January. My hands look like I’ve been doing hard labour in a prison camp—the neutral polish has all but peeled off completely and my 4-year-old daughter has painted over them with a sparkly polish. Not to mention that I haveRead More

I’ve recently noticed a lot of people talking about Ofra Cosmetics, so I thought that I should find out a bit more about them.   After meeting the lovely ladies from Ofra Cosmetics for a chat and to find out what products they have in their range, they sent me the following to review:   Ofra Cosmetics Liquid Foundation – In Lite Beige – R222.90 This is a long lasting water-based liquid foundation with silicone ACE complex, Aloe Vera, Collagen adn Vitamin E that moisturises and protects the skin as it conceals.   What I love about it: * It provides sheer coverage which allows the skins natural radiance to show through, so you don’t look like you have too much make-up on.   * It comes with a spatula to reach the product, so you don’t contaminate the product and get everything out of the bottle.   * It lasts long and maintainsRead More

Spray Tan Party

Posted on by Anouschka in Reviews, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment

After meeting Stoffeleen, who gave me the best manicure ever, I was super excited to hear that she did spraytan parties at your home.   I invited a few people to come and be part of Stoffeleen’s spraytan party experience. Sunet, an ex-colleague of mine, has recently had a baby and just returned to work, so she was defintely ready for some pampering.   Antoinette, is getting married in April, and I thought that this would be a perfect way for her to test a spraytan before her wedding.   As Stoffeleen works during the day, she can come to your house most days after 6pm. She’ll bring everything you’ll need for the spray tan with her and ususally carries it around with her in her car in case of last minute calls.   She set the tent up in my bathroom, but has also sprayed people in their showerRead More
