microdermabrasion

A few months ago I went to the Dr Brandt Launch at Just Skin Aesthetics Clinic. Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow swear by Dr Brandt’s Lineless skincare range while Kelly Ripa, Emma Rossum and Lenny Kravitz are fans of his other skincare solutions.   Even though I was adamant that I was not going to buy anything (as if!), I was pretty impressed with a couple of the products, and they had a Special Offer which was really good value for money, so I hauled out my credit card and walked away with some products and a lovely Free Gift for good measure. I was going away that weekend, so I didn’t get a chance to test the products until a week later, and I have been meaning to tell you about one product in particular, the Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Face Cream.    What it is: A poweful at-home alternative to aRead More

Anti-aging-girl

Simple, Non-Invasive Anti-Aging Treatments that everyone should do. As soon as we hit our 30’s and certainly by the time we start nearing our 40’s, most women (and some men) will have noticed that fine lines turning into wrinkles. As collagen production drops dramatically after 35 yrs of age, how can we best combat these signs of aging? If you didn’t start a beauty regime in your 20’s then it’s not too late, but certainly time to try and slow down the aging process. For those of us that don’t (yet) want to try invasive treatments, there are many non-invasive anti-aging treatments that can not only slow down the process but even reverse some signs as well.   To be clear, we will be focusing on simple non-invasive facial treatments in this post.   What are my top 5 anti-aging tips that really work?   1) SPF !!! Recently I had the pleasure of meeting two wonderful women at Serayu Beauty Salon in Durbanville. Being an ex Durbanville girl, I was looking forward to visiting my old stomping ground. Location Yvette Adonis recently acquired Serayu Beauty and has been upgrading this beauty salon allowing clients to indulge in even more beauty and slimming treatments.  Situated in Sadre Park, there is parking in front of the Salon but as these were taken I found parking across the road. Welcome Although I always try to arrive early, I had forgotten that this was the last day of term and as we also had a teacher’s farewell that morning 🙁 , I had to do some speeding up the N1 to try and get there on time. Yvette was there to meet me and even though she was multitasking, she had a sense of organised calm about her. Facilities Serayu is decoratedRead More

All weekend I was looking forward to my Elixir massage at Ginkgo Spa. Janine had invited me to experience this signature treatment and my back and shoulders were in serious need of some pampering after sitting behind my computer for so many hours. Location There are several Ginkgo Spas located in luxurious hotels in the Western Cape. Ginkgo Spa at the Winchester Mansions Hotel overlooks the spectacular Sea Point promenade. I’d been to the Winchester Mansions Hotel before, for Sunday brunch (amazing), but had not yet had the pleasure of visiting the Spa. Welcome For once I did manage to arrive early and upon meeting Janine I was offered a delicious cup of chai tea (I want more) and filled in the obligatory consultation form. Janine and I chatted for a little while, where after she showed me around the Spa. This is the original Ginkgo Spa (there are 4Read More

What’s the difference between a Beauty Salon and an Aesthetics Clinic?

While skin care and beauty treatments are at the forefront of both, the biggest difference between a Beauty Salon and an Aesthetics Clinic is the treatments that you can expect to receive there.   A Beauty Salon’s focus is more about pampering and include your classic beauty and grooming treatments (facials, massages, mani/pedi, waxing and other signature treatments), while anyone working in aesthetics is more concerned and trained in anti-aging. Even though they will probably still take care of your waxing and pedi needs, their main focus is on turning back the clock with treatments like facial and chemical peels, photo rejuvenation, dermal fillers and Botox.   This does not mean however, that a clinic needs to feel like a doctor’s office. JUST SKIN AESTHETIC CLINIC is as elegant and lovely as its owner Carol Maccallum who has been in the skin care industry for over 25 years with previousRead More

Smoothe Boutique Beauty in Eden on the Bay

Smoothe-03

Cathy Gee generously invited me to experience Smoothe’s Winter Warmer Package that they sponsored for our June Competition. Location Staring in my rear view mirror I saw the last rays of sunshine disappearing into  the distance as I bravely barrelled down the N1 towards Blouberg and tarmac coloured clouds. With my feet warmly ensconced in my hubby’s socks and my winter boots, I turned up the heater and I braced myself for a long, wet journey.   Surprisingly I really enjoyed the drive. It was so peaceful, no incessant babbling from our 4 year old, no business musings from hubby and no screeching baby. Keeping the radio purposefully switched off I enjoyed the blissful silence.   After a law enforced 60 km/hour crawl (I passed a cop earlier and could still feel his beady eyes on me), I suddenly realised that I had no idea where I was. As aRead More

A few months ago I walked past this elegant yet unassuming Spa called Kimya in Camps Bay, and popped in to get a treatment and price list. What immediately impressed me was the warmth and friendliness of the ladies who made me feel really welcome, even though I was just picking up a brochure.   When I was invited by Aashika to experience a Slimming Detox Wrap, I was certainly looking forward to visiting them again.   Location Kimya Spa opened in May 2011 and is situated in The Promenade on Victoria Road in the heart of Camps Bay. There is ample parking inside the Promenade which is always an important factor to me, with regard to safety and convenience.  Welcome I arrived early so that I could meet Aashika before my treatment and was greeted warmly and openly. There are some glorious Kalahari testers while you wait in the frontRead More

SW1 Spa Retreat in Somerset West

I was treated by a dear friend to a half day spa experience for two at SW1 Spa Retreat in Somerset West. I’m going to come right out and say that I have mixed reviews about our experience. I had looked up their website and did have high hopes, but they had cancelled on me once as two of their staff had just resigned, so I was holding thumbs.  I finally got my husband to agree to take some time off work (as their weekends were fully booked) and off we went. I had a bit of a cold but am always ready to be pampered. Location SW1 is in Somerset West and is situated in a residential area. The outside does not really do it justice as once you enter, it feels like an intimate version of a holiday resort. There are stunning views over the ocean and itRead More
