[Review] Professional Skin Care Lab – Microneedling

Posted on by Nikki Temkin in Reviews, Spa Reviews

I have a confession to make. When I am not reviewing salons, Professional Skin Care Lab is my go-to salon.

Whatever treatment you choose at this salon is bound to be of the highest standard— Professional Skin Care Lab just won the coveted Salon of the Year Award  (4 rooms or more) at this year’s prestigious Professional Beauty Awards.

So,if I was going to trust anyone to do the seemingly intimidating Microneedling Treatment with the Dermapen on me and my rather sensitive visage, well it’s definitely this salon.

The idea behind the Microneedling is that it uses the Dermapen,  which has multiple needles that pierce the skin vertically with an automatic vibrating function. While moving across the skin’s surface it stimulates natural collagen production and allows fine channels to be created in the skin. These channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients so allowing your skin to really absorb them deeply. This stimulates repair and means faster results.

Gina Gall, the brilliant owner of the Professional Skin Care Lab, who also did my treatment, explained to me that the wonderful, thing about the Dermapen is that the therapist (and you must be very sure that you visit a reputable salon for this) can customise the setting for your particular skin as well as for different areas on your face as they work. Some areas may be worked deeper than others during the same treatment session.

The microneedling sensation is not pleasant but it is not painful and entirely manageable. In fact, most often, a topical aesthetic is applied beforehand which would mean that really mostly nothing would be felt during the treatment. In my case, there was very little bleeding but in some treatments, as Gina explains, as in for scar tissue treatment, a little bit of bleeding would be necessary for the desired results. In effect, the skin is being provoked and inflamed to increase its natural healing process. DP (Dermaceutical Products) products were used during my session with the Dermapen, but other brands can also be used.

In case you balked at the word needles, let me promise you that it hurts no more afterwards than a bit of a sunburn and only lasted a day. My skin was fairly red and inflamed afterwards but with a professional application of Lycogel Breathable Camouflage after the session to calm, hydrate, nourish and protect the skin with and SPF 30, I was good to go. A day later, the redness was gone completely leaving my skin looking and feeling fantastic.

It’s important to use the correct products for your skin during the healing process. (*Please see my next review about the amazing Serra products which were recommended to me after this treatment)

Microneedling is recommended for anything from acne scars and minimising pores to stretch marks as well as for rejuvenation and a series of treatments are recommended for optimum results. I was blown away by the results. Skin needling therapy is the latest buzzword in beauty — and for very good reason. It really works.

Favourite Part

The magnificent results about to days after the treatment. My skin felt exceptionally, smooth and looked glowing and dare I say it, youthful.

Least Favourite Part

The actual treatment can be uncomfortable however, it’s entirely worth it for the great reward of having amazing looking skin.

Microneedling is not a soothing facial—it’s an impactful and powerful treatment designed to get results and to improve the quality of your skin— and it definitely does. As a series of sessions are recommended, I will be back for more ! It certainly made a measurable difference to the texture and appearance of my fine lines and pigmentation.
