Last week I dashed off to Style Bar Constantia again for a much needed hair pamper session, and as always I was drawn to the funky new Tangle Teezers as well as some fun gift sets that look pretty amazing.   I’m such a fan of the Tangle Teezer that I have several in different shapes and sizes and have gifted a few as well. As Feb is the month of lurve, these pink Tangle Angels really stood out.                            These little mini ‘nano’ invisibobbles are amazing for up do’s instead of using pins.    I also wanted to mention and give a shout out to Style Bar for using EcoHeads in all the salons, which basically reduces water usage by 56% but still gives you a powerful spray for a good wash.    Style Bar  For moreRead More

African Extracts Rooibos just sent me some of their  Advantage Range of products to test and review. I usually like to use products I’m sent without researching them too much at first, to get a real feel for the products without being influenced by price or other people’s opinions.     Even though I do quite a bit of research when it comes to beauty products, I’ve never studied the science behind it, so I really like to go on gut feel as well. I tend to find that some products stay at the front of the shelf and I tend to reach for them on a daily basis, while others slowly migrate to the back of the cupboard, because they lack the Wow! factor in my opinion.   My initial feeling towards the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Range is very positive. I love that it’s a local brand,Read More

What To Ask Your Hairdresser

I’m sure you’ve all had to go through that super annoying process of finding a new GP, hair dresser etc, when you move to a new place.   Luckily we now have social media to check on who’s who in your new local area, avoiding making too many mistakes along the way.   Even though I was adamant that I would drive back to visit my hairdresser, I eventually did cave and decide to find someone local.   After a few attempts we finally found my ‘goldilocks’ colour (not too dark and not too light), but I was thinking that I could have helped speed up this process if I’d paid more attention and known more about what had been used on my hair previously.   So, I decided to ask my current stylist at Style Bar in Constantia Village what we should know to ensure a smooth transition from one stylist toRead More

Hello Pretty Summer Colours

Everyone knows the Carlton brand for their hair salons but what you probably didn’t know is that they’ve also added the services of a nail technician to pamper your nails as well.   I was invited to experience their nail treatments at Carlton in Cavendish.   It was a Saturday morning and the salon was busy with a great vibe.   While Rachel was busy with my manicure I looked around at everyone’s lovely hair and immediately wished I’d booked myself in for a wash and blow dry at the same time 😉   Rachel did an amazing job prepping my nails and Carlton offers a wide variety of colours to choose from.     I learnt something new as well, in that all the new Morgan Taylor colours that have just been launched, like the Hello Pretty range, are also available in Gelish application. As I had already received and tried the MintRead More

Amazing Abalone House & Spa Paternoster – Review

My husband and I were invited to experience the Abalone House & Spa in August 2015.   We’ve stayed and several B&B’s before in Paternoster, which we’ve always enjoyed, but this time we were looking forward to a romantic break away from the kids.   Arriving at Abalone House, we immediately felt relaxed amidst the eclectic bohemian decor and settled into our room before enjoying a glass of bubbles on the deck.     We then went for a wander around the village and popped into one of the wonderful local restaurants for a mouth watering lunch. We wanted to go for a long stroll along the beach, but as it was drizzling, we opted to enjoy the hotel facilities instead. We’d booked a table at 7pm for dinner, but they suggested that we should come down a little earlier to see the sunset on the deck. Unfortunately the weather didn’t play along,Read More

Bella Essenza Spa Review

We can all definitely appreciate visiting a big brand spa where we expect well trained staff and good quality products. However, there is something very convenient about your local, smaller spa where you get a more personalised experience.   So how about getting the best of both worlds?   Ulandi offers just this in her home based spa in the Northern Suburbs.  Having trained at Isa Carstens Academy, she then gained significant experience at SKIN Wellness as a thereapist and manageress, before opening  The Urban Spa in 2006.  She finally opened her home-based spa called Bella Essenza in Durbanville.   Having grown up in Durbanville, many years ago, I was keen to visit my old hood again and see what Ulandi had to offer.   I was treated to the Optiphi Class Full Age Defying Facial – 80 min – R650   I asked Ulandi why she chose Optiphi for her clients: “It isRead More

Skin Renewal introduces the latest non-surgical facelift treatment

Before & After pics

Skin Renewal is very excited to introduce the Miracu Threadlift – a non-surgical, no-scar facelift.   The treatment, which has been a hot favourite in Europe and the East for a few years now, is now available via Skin Renewal in South Africa.   During the procedure, which only medical doctors are qualified to perform, multi-strand threads are injected deep underneath the surface of the skin, using different lengths of thin acupuncture needles. The threads are strategically placed, guided by the natural tension lines of the skin. Once placed, they act as a scaffold, lifting loose and sagging skin.     The procedure also stimulates the production of collagen, and further creates a frame for the collagen to attach to, showing effects similar to that of a surgical facelift. The threads are reabsorbed and dissolved over a period of time, but due to the stimulation of collagen, the treatment showsRead More

Time To Visit Style Bar

Feb_2015

After the holidays and a crazy start to the new year, I was desperate to visit Style Bar again and give my hair some much needed attention.   Nicole booked me in with a new stylist who lives in my area, so we quickly started chatting about our local neighbourhood.   Style Bar is always busy with customers popping in just to say ‘hi’ and catch up with their stylists and friends.   They have loads of products in store too, so if you’re looking for a top salon brand, you’re sure to find it there, or on their online shop Retail Box    I decided to go back to blonde for Summer so we ditched the low lights and only added highlights this time.   I spent the time waiting for my highlights to take, catching up with fellow blogger Kathryn Rossiter, who was there having her hair done as well.  Read More
