My husband and I were invited to experience the Abalone House & Spa in August 2015.   We’ve stayed and several B&B’s before in Paternoster, which we’ve always enjoyed, but this time we were looking forward to a romantic break away from the kids.   Arriving at Abalone House, we immediately felt relaxed amidst the eclectic bohemian decor and settled into our room before enjoying a glass of bubbles on the deck.     We then went for a wander around the village and popped into one of the wonderful local restaurants for a mouth watering lunch. We wanted to go for a long stroll along the beach, but as it was drizzling, we opted to enjoy the hotel facilities instead. We’d booked a table at 7pm for dinner, but they suggested that we should come down a little earlier to see the sunset on the deck. Unfortunately the weather didn’t play along,Read More

Nails-done

One of the best things about being a beauty blogger is that I get to discover all these wonderful new spas and salons that I might never have known about otherwise.   I’ve just come back from having a super gorgeous Gelish mani done by Candice Goldschmidt at Love It Spa at Nova Constantia.     It seems that the timing was perfect for Candice to move out on her own, after working for several high end spas, and open Love it spa on this 5* boutique hotel’s premises.   Catering for international clients in season, Candice also has a loyal local client base and I can see why.   She created a simple yet super comfortable haven of tranquillity, where you immediately feel comfortable and at home. Candice delivers top quality treatments and products and you can see she is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what she does.    Read More

Where Thyme Stands Still

Welcome

I’ve just come back from spending 6 days in the desert, so you can imagine how much I was looking forward to my pampering treat at Thyme Wellness Spa. Louda had invited me to experience their Tranquility Touch Treatment & the Dermalogica Core Facial.   On arrival my feet were cleansed in warm water, while I filled in my info sheet. What a nice touch!   As soon as I met my therapist, Nicole, I knew I was in good hands. She clearly explained the procedure for the next few hours, then left me to get ready.     We started with the massage. She explained that this massage uses very rhythmic movements and therefore would not be as firm as a regular massage, but still asked what kind of pressure I preferred. This was arguably the most relaxing massage I have ever had. She managed to combine the flowing movements with aRead More

After meeting with Krystle from Casuarina Wellness at the Commodore Hotel, she mentioned that they were about to introduce Babor to their treatment list and invited me to be one of the first to experience the Doctor Babor Facial.   Situated conveniently near the V&A Waterfront, the Commodore Hotel, is the perfect tranquil setting for the Casuarina Spa.     After taking some pics of the spa for this review, Jenetth, my therapist, walked me to our treatment room, and explained the steps of the Doctor Babor Facial.   Main active ingredients from the biogen plant extract are: Rosemary: stimulateing, regenerating Ginseng: revitalizing Nettle: stimulates the circulation, astringent Figwort: used in homeopathy to treat eczema Watercress: soothes skin rashes Sorrel: used in homeopath to alleviate general skin disorders Fumitory: used in homeopathy to treat eczema Bladder wrack: supplies moisture and stimulates the circulation   This is not a feeble facialRead More

EQUINOX SPA Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a hotel? You know, like in the movies, where the actor lives in some fancy hotel with a concierge who runs out to hail them a cab, shielding them under an umbrella from the rain. He knows everything about them but is hardly noticed until he makes that one life changing speech at the end of the movie which convinces said actor to pursue his/her real love. Heck, even the Kardashians (okay I might admit to watching 1 episode) seem to live in hotels– and I don’t mean when they are travelling or on holiday.     Anyway, the reason for asking is that I’ve often wondered what it must be like, and assumed that it might be a bit clinical and that it would never really feel like ‘home’. Well, recently I had a changeRead More

All weekend I was looking forward to my Elixir massage at Ginkgo Spa. Janine had invited me to experience this signature treatment and my back and shoulders were in serious need of some pampering after sitting behind my computer for so many hours. Location There are several Ginkgo Spas located in luxurious hotels in the Western Cape. Ginkgo Spa at the Winchester Mansions Hotel overlooks the spectacular Sea Point promenade. I’d been to the Winchester Mansions Hotel before, for Sunday brunch (amazing), but had not yet had the pleasure of visiting the Spa. Welcome For once I did manage to arrive early and upon meeting Janine I was offered a delicious cup of chai tea (I want more) and filled in the obligatory consultation form. Janine and I chatted for a little while, where after she showed me around the Spa. This is the original Ginkgo Spa (there are 4Read More
