Stay-Matte

I’ve just received these Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour from Rubybox to test and review.   The Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour range comes in fifteen shades. I have twelve of the shades featured here in this post. The three that are missing are Blue Iris (Blue), Shadow (Grey) and Black but not sure if they will be sold in SA.    The colours I tested range from a very natural beige to an extreme purple with a wide range of pinks and corals in between.   I’ve been trying out a few long wearing lipsticks recently so was very eager to give these a try as well.   They promise a comfortable, velvet finish with one swipe colour, which I will test out. I’ll also do the ‘Torture Test’: kiss proof, water proof, touch proof, and does it last 12 hours.     Pigment Each colour has a very richRead More

[Review] Aura Skincare Clinic – Parkhurst

QMS

Aura skincare is one of my go-to salons— I have my nails done there occasionally—they do a sterling job and the experience is always very pleasant. Nestled in Parkhurst, the salon is elegant and comfortable.     So, it was, of course, a no-brainer when I was offered a !QMS Medicosmetics Neo Tissudermie Treament.  The skincare line is award-winning and I have always wanted to to try a facial. Dr. Schulte, the creator of these products, combined his passion for science with his vast experience whilst working as a surgeon in the fields of trauma and cosmetic surgery, to continually evolve the effectiveness of skincare. He sees the future of skincare as being interlinked with the development of modern technologies used to transport the ingredients deep into the epidermal layer.     Glynne, the lovely owner, who also did my treatment, assured me that my skin would not “overreact” toRead More

Style Bar Latest Promo

I’ve just come back from my appointment at Style Bar in Constantia and have to share their latest specials with you.   Firstly, I was treated to the nak ultimate treatment 60 sec repair, which is amazing. The main reason I tend to skip treatments at home is because you have to leave it in for so long, and with the water restrictions we’re having in Cape Town, that’s just not manageable. So this is an absolute must have item as it works in 60 seconds and leaves your hair super soft.      Right now, you can choose from any of the following Luxury Highlights or Colour Promotion:   Short tint cut and blow R990 Long tint cut and blow R1190 1/2 highlight cut and blow R1190 Full highlight cut and blow R1390   All the above specials include the nak treatment at the basin, plus a full retail size to takeRead More

[Review] Collagen Lift Paris Red Carpet

I’m excited to have been selected as one of the bloggers to test and review the Collagen Lift Paris Red Carpet.   This is a collagen supplement that you take orally on a daily basis.   Each 10 ml ampule contains: Bioactive Collagen 5000mg Hyaluronic Acid 100mg Mediterranean Seaweed Extract Vitamin C Indications and Recommendations: Take 1 ampule a day diluted in a glass of water or juice on an empty stomach, preferably before breakfast. I put it in some water, and it tastes really nice, like a red berry juice.    Clinically Proven To: Decrease wrinkles Increase skin elasticity and moisture Restore plumpness    Initially I wasn’t sure if I was interested in testing a supplement, but after doing a little bit of research, the benefits of taking oral collagen sounded very interesting, so I quickly changed my mind.   Rubybox sent me a 2 month supply to testRead More

Lamelle – Serra skincare range

serra

So, the quest is always on to find the perfect skincare for my skin which is mostly dry, sensitive and generally stressed. And of course, after the age of 40 is presenting other rather distressing issues such as pigmentation and wrinkles.   Gina at Professional Skin Care Lab, my trusty salon, recommended that after my  microneedling session (see review) I needed to use the Serra range of products made by local laboratory Lamelle as these would best suit my skin and also facilitate the healing needed after the treatment.   Having previously used Lamelle’s Clarity Active Control for breakouts and been very impressed, I was keen to try out this range of products specifically deigned for sensitive skin like mine,  which also has an anti-inflammatory effect.   The Serra products have been created to maintain a functional skin barrier —essential to prevent unwanted environmental elements from penetrating into theRead More

Last week I dashed off to Style Bar Constantia again for a much needed hair pamper session, and as always I was drawn to the funky new Tangle Teezers as well as some fun gift sets that look pretty amazing.   I’m such a fan of the Tangle Teezer that I have several in different shapes and sizes and have gifted a few as well. As Feb is the month of lurve, these pink Tangle Angels really stood out.                            These little mini ‘nano’ invisibobbles are amazing for up do’s instead of using pins.    I also wanted to mention and give a shout out to Style Bar for using EcoHeads in all the salons, which basically reduces water usage by 56% but still gives you a powerful spray for a good wash.    Style Bar  For moreRead More

Andrew Churcher – Reflexology

reflexology

Once in a while, you come across someone extraordinary— and Andrew is one of those people. He is a qualified reflexologist and aromatherapist,  but he is also so much more than that.    A natural born healer (it runs in his family) , Andrew’s background as a paramedic means that he not only understands the body from the medical perspective but also how to use his intuition in his treatments.   I am a big believer in reflexology and in its ability to treat ailments and promote healing and relaxation and bring balance to the system. In fact, throughout the years, I have used it many times on a regular basis— as when I was on fertility treatment and trying to get pregnant. I found it extremely helpful then and it’s still one of my favourite body therapies.     Andrew’s reflexology method is very gentle. The minute he beganRead More

My Dermal Filler Experience [VIDEO]

Screen-Image

After I had my Botox treatment with Dr Alek Nikolic, we discussed dermal fillers — injections of hyaluronic acid — to fill out my sunken cheekbones and lift the corners of my mouth.  We definitely wanted to keep it looking natural, which I believe he managed to do, as once again no-one has noticed. I’ve just had a few people saying I’m looking good/healthy etc.   I was quite nervous on the day. Firstly because I didn’t know what it was going to look like afterwards, and secondly because there is a risk of complications. Regardless of how good/experienced the doctor is, there are some potential side effects. You can read more about that on All Dolled Up’s excellent Q&A here.    Luckily Dr Alek is very calm and professional, which made it a lot less scary.   My main concern was loss of volume in my cheeks so he injected Juvederm fillersRead More

I was sent the John Frieda Sheer Blonde HI Impact Shampoo & Conditioner to test and review.   This range was created to give over processed hair new life, restoring blonde hair’s healthy, vivid hues.    Safe for use on natural or colour-treated hair and for use on highlights & lowlights. Verdict: It smells really wonderful, cleans well, and not only does my hair colour look good (vibrant blonde), it also feels really soft, and manageable, which was an added bonus.     Two thumbs up!   Available at Clicks – R110 each

[Review] Tempo Pocket Tissues

alepvera2

So it might seem strange to be reviewing tissues, however, Tempo has launched some really great new varieties, which I was keen to try.   Tempo Tissues come in 10 packs of pocket tissues are all 4 Ply Strength. Each pack contains 10 individually wrapped tissues. Convenient and disposable tissues that are soft and gentle on your skin, yet strong enough to clean your face, hands and nose.   In addition to their usual packs of Tempo Classic pocket  tissues, with new soft comfort formula, they’ve added their Protect tissues which has Aloe Vera, and a Complete Care tissue which has Eucalyptus oils.  Protect Pocket Tissue – Aloe Vera These tissues are infused with a gentle Aloe Vera fragrance and include an Antibacterial Formula which reduces germs directly in the tissue, protecting against the spread of germs. These would be great for hay-fever sufferers as it’s gentle and smells absolutely beautiful.   CompleteRead More

[Review] Lipidol Sunscreen Oil

sunscreen_01

I was sent the latest Lipidol sunscreen oil with SPF 20 to test and review, which arrived at exactly the right time, just Summer in Cape Town.   Even though it’s an oil, which usually triggers thoughts of sunburn, rather than sun protection, this protects your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, while supplementing your skin’s natural oily layer at the same time.     I was happy to note that it does absorb quickly but it does still feel a bit oily if you apply a lot. So apply sparingly if you’re going to the beach for example. However, saying that, my son was rolling in the sand and I managed to wipe off most of the sand before he got into the car, so it’s probably similar to creamy sunscreens.   My skin felt really moisturized at the end of the day, and no sunburn inRead More
