[Review] Rain – Metamorphosis

Posted on by Anouschka in Reviews, Spa Reviews | Leave a comment
You even get to take some goodies home afterwards

When I read about the Rain Metamorphosis treatment I was immediately drawn to the idea of shedding my Winter skin and emerging new and refreshed, ready for Summer.    I’m going to come right out and say that this was probably one of the BEST massage treatments that I have EVER had. 2 hours of pure pampering. One thing that sets Rain apart from other spas is that everything has a journey, and it’s led by the client. Sylvia, my therapist, gently guided me on a journey of the senses, starting with me choosing which products she was going to use for the exfoliation, body and head massage.     Everything was perfection. The product choices were varied and top quality. The treatment was structured in such a way to minimise the client having to turn over or move. Yes, you have to get up to shower between the exfoliationRead More

[Review] African Extracts Rooibos

ae-webslide_advantage-16

African Extracts Rooibos just sent me some of their  Advantage Range of products to test and review. I usually like to use products I’m sent without researching them too much at first, to get a real feel for the products without being influenced by price or other people’s opinions.     Even though I do quite a bit of research when it comes to beauty products, I’ve never studied the science behind it, so I really like to go on gut feel as well. I tend to find that some products stay at the front of the shelf and I tend to reach for them on a daily basis, while others slowly migrate to the back of the cupboard, because they lack the Wow! factor in my opinion.   My initial feeling towards the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Range is very positive. I love that it’s a local brand,Read More

L’oreal Paris Revitalift Filler Renew Range Review

Revitalift-Range

I received the L’oreal Revitalift Filler Renew Range to review and have been using them everyday for the last two weeks. The range consists of the Hyaluronic Replumping Serum, the Filler Precision Eye Cream, the Anti-Ageing Day Replumping Care and the Anti-Ageing Night Replumping Care. In reviewing these products, I must first highlight that these are OTC (Over The Counter) products, which I don’t believe should be compared to doctor prescribed cosmeceuticals.  All products retail for R284.95,  available at Clicks and Dischem.   Hyaluronic Replumping Serum “This is not a Dermalogical Filler however, it will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and replump the look of skin contours.  This serum is 10x more concentrated with hyaluronic acid than the average L’Oreal Paris day cream” Pros: It contains hyaluronic acid, which is great for restoring moisture to your skin. I also absolutely love the innovative, fun packaging. It looks like a syringe whichRead More

[Review] Skin Miles

I am a big believer in shopping online— mostly because I am too busy to actually hit the shops and it is very convenient. But, I had no idea that skincare uniquely chosen for my specific skin issues, could also be ordered online.   Skin Miles offers you the chance to have a “consultation” with renowned aesthetic medical practitioner, Dr Alek Nikolic and then receive your products to your home. What a novel and fantastic idea!   It’s pretty simple—I filled out on online form about my skin, my major concerns and skin challenges as well as what I was looking for in products and which products I already was using. My main concerns this winter were dehydration, anti-ageing and pigmentation and I was also very anxious about not provoking a flare-up of my rosacea, which appears mostly in times of stress but can also be aggravated by products and foods.Read More

[Review] You Bar

Unless you’ve been hiding under a big rock, then you will know that the latest buzzword in beauty treatments is “natural”. This means using products with the least amount of chemicals that are as close to nature and as organic as possible.     So, this is where YouBar really has set the bar very high (sorry, I could not help myself) as they pride themselves on using all-natural ingredients that are bio-identical, which means avoiding synthetics. Africology products, YouBar’s products of choice, are locally made, and have built up a cult following. It’s no wonder! Not only are they amazingly good for you in every way, but one sniff of their delicious aromatic aroma and you will be hooked forevermore— this I promise you!     I was lucky enough to experience one of the most  divine manicures ever— the Africology Signature Manicure. As a beauty reviewer, I haveRead More

BVLGARI Omnia Paraiba Review

IMG_2591[1]

I’ve just received the latest fragrance by BVLGARI – the 6th perfume in the Omnia for women series. Omnia in the Urban dictionary refers a scale used to describe sheer perfection. Ranging from 1 to Omnia. Omnia being the highest.  This perfume was inspired by one of the most unique gems on earth, the radiant Paraiba Tourmaline of Brazil, which is blue-green in colour.   BVLGARI Omnia Paraiba was developed by perfumer Alberto Morillas. It features notes of Laraha orange, passion fruit and flower, gardenia, sugar cane, vetiver and cacao bean.    It is quite sweet (orange) but not over overpoweringly so. The passion fruit flower also comes through quite strongly.  Omnia Paraiba is a sophisticated warm, sweet fragrance, and makes me yearn for a Summer evening on a beach in Brazil. Urban Bliss – Review & Give-Away

Algae-wrap-small

Well, it had been at least a year since my last facial (my dermatologist suggested I not do any treatments to my face because my rosacea flare-up was quite severe) but it seemed to have settled down so I decided to brave a facial from this spa— call it a good intuition.   I knew that they meant serious business and that I would in safe hands when the owner of the spa, Ayesha, wanted to know everything about my skin. So, I shared my sorry tale with her (of dehydration, rosacea and sensitivity) and she assured me that the treatment would be customised for my particular skin conditions. Ayesha, a true beauty professional, owned a spa for many years before this and has ensured that Urban Bliss well and truly lives up to its name. A little hideaway in the middle of buzzing Emmarentia, you must be warned that onceRead More

What To Ask Your Hairdresser

essence-summer

I’m sure you’ve all had to go through that super annoying process of finding a new GP, hair dresser etc, when you move to a new place.   Luckily we now have social media to check on who’s who in your new local area, avoiding making too many mistakes along the way.   Even though I was adamant that I would drive back to visit my hairdresser, I eventually did cave and decide to find someone local.   After a few attempts we finally found my ‘goldilocks’ colour (not too dark and not too light), but I was thinking that I could have helped speed up this process if I’d paid more attention and known more about what had been used on my hair previously.   So, I decided to ask my current stylist at Style Bar in Constantia Village what we should know to ensure a smooth transition from one stylist toRead More

Carlton Hair & Nails

Hello Pretty Summer Colours

Everyone knows the Carlton brand for their hair salons but what you probably didn’t know is that they’ve also added the services of a nail technician to pamper your nails as well.   I was invited to experience their nail treatments at Carlton in Cavendish.   It was a Saturday morning and the salon was busy with a great vibe.   While Rachel was busy with my manicure I looked around at everyone’s lovely hair and immediately wished I’d booked myself in for a wash and blow dry at the same time 😉   Rachel did an amazing job prepping my nails and Carlton offers a wide variety of colours to choose from.     I learnt something new as well, in that all the new Morgan Taylor colours that have just been launched, like the Hello Pretty range, are also available in Gelish application. As I had already received and tried the MintRead More

Sensitive Skin Day Cream

AAsemirich

My latest discovery is a wonderful moisturiser from AA Cosmetics.   Distributed by the same people that brought us Hean, this is a moisturiser for sensitive skin, with 0% allergens, parabens, or color additives.   This fragrance free, semi-rich 24 hour cream is recommended for normal and dry skin. It feels absolutely amazing on my skin, however I did find it to be slightly too rich for daytime use IF I’m in a rush and want to apply my usual foundation immediately afterwards. It does however absorb beautifully after a few minutes, and I use it generously on my neck and decollete as well.   It contains 1% Vitamin E (an antioxidant that protects and repairs your skin) and 2% Allantoin (stimulating new skin cell growth,  anti-inflammatory properties and soothes skin irritation).   I’ve subsequently found many more products on their website that I’d like to try.   Their website highlights whichRead More
