Threading – The New Non-Surgical Face Lift

Posted on by Anouschka in Product Reviews, Reviews

I was pretty excited to attend a threading demonstration at Skin & Body Renewal by Dr Maureen at their Greenpoint spa, as I’ve heard a bit about this new technique but really wanted to know more and who best to learn from than Dr Maureen herself.

Some of you might have heard of threadlifts several years ago but these are totally different absorbable polymer threads.

What are the benefits of threading?

Threading can be viewed as a non-surgical facelift. Depending on which threads you use, you can lift and/or firm the skin.

It improves skin tone, texture, pigmentation, scarring and stretch marks, as well as fat reduction. These results are long lasting as new collagen is produced.

How does it work?

The threads have tiny barbs in them which hook onto the skin and allow you to lift the skin up. Secondly, the increased blood flow produces more collagen to the area over 8 months, which firms and smooths the skin over time.

How many threads will you need?

This depends on your needs and the area you are doing, but you can start by addressing one area, and work on other areas in later sessions 3 or 4 months later. They call it the ‘Pay As You Go’ Threadlift. The amount of threads is determined by your budget.

Skin & Body Renewal have special package price for 8 to 16 threads in a session.

Once you’ve done an area, the collagen will build up over 8 months, and then slowly lessen over time, as it would with the normal aging process, but you can then add fewer threads for maintenance.

What areas can you do?

Face, neck, breasts, flabby arms, knees, bum, ankles you name it.

Even though there are hardly any side effects (no scars or visible cuts, and only possibly slight bruising or swelling), this procedure is also relatively new in South Africa, so you should definitely choose a qualified doctor to do your threadlift.
